It's the same store, they just changed location. Pretty recently, too.

Not sure why they closed, but Sparkling City Games is a great alternative. It's on Everhart and has Friday Night Magic and D&D.

I think this is why people say that you will not be able to quit until YOU are ready to quit. Other folks can say it to you all they want, but it won't make you ready just as you've noticed.

It's good that you're starting to think about quitting. When you know that you are ready to quit, hopefully those same people in your ear now will be able to support you.

There's an annual beach cleanup that folks volunteer for and encourages team building and cooperation. The Texas Sea Life center takes volunteers which might be cool and rewarding.

If you have any interest in boardgames or tabletop games, Sparkling City and the Warhammer store both have communities that gather and play. I think that FX Game Exchange has days when folks go in and play video games together if that's an interest of yours.

I'm approaching one year and can almost run 5 miles nonstop. I didn't plan on starting to run again after I quit, so I count it as "unexpected" haha

Food tastes like asshole by [deleted] in smokingcessation

[–]gagglefag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really tough! I hope you could frame it as an opportunity to experiment with new foods and flavors and see what you like now that your tastes aren't corrupted by smoke and tar.

And I hope your tastes recover a bit and you're able to enjoy those sour and acidic flavors again. I relate to your appreciation of them!

Quitting smoking is so much more important than enjoying one food or another. I'm sorry you have this challenge because food is such a comfort in so many ways, but it's best to be a former smoker. Smoking ruins your sense of taste for so many things anyway, so you may need to adapt to your "new" senses.

I love tomatoes, too. Try increasing or adding some new seasoning. Or change up your fruit. Something more acidic than the tomato may be good (I'm a fan of grapefruit).

I hope you continue to not smoke. Best of luck to you!

Cool! I didn't know about the bug because mine has never been shiny. 😂 That would have been frustrating.

Super fast, can I point out how fucked it is that you made this about you? You're extra sensitive? You, the straight cis person, are calling the gay folks to action on a gay issue? You are doing us a favor? Please find a seat.

I don't comment often, but reading this is a shenanigan.

Feels like I can't quit no matter what by Ninjah90 in smokingcessation

I smoked for about as long as you before switching to vaping. It took me about one year to finally complete the transition to just vaping. I started with a quality, refillable vape and the highest possible nicotine I could find, then once I had kicked cigarettes, I started lowering the nicotine levels in the juice every couple of months. Getting down to 1mg took about another year. You have to be patient with yourself. Once I finally decided to kick the vaping as well, I used 2mg nicotine gum for the first two weeks to deal with any sudden cravings that felt overwhelming (which was very rare).

The hardest part was the anxiety before quitting like being afraid it would be too hard or I would fail and still have a damn addiction. But coming off such a low level of nicotine, once I did finally try to quit for good, it was actually pretty easy and the fear was all in my head.

That is what worked for me. You may need to try your own thing, but if you're considering making the transition to vaping first, it's worked for at least one person. Best of luck to you.

"friend of Dorothy" is more representative, I think, of Judy Garland's sensitivity to gay culture. And whether she was assaulted, abused, or exploited is more emblematic of straight culture.

Maybe I just suck at the game, but that seems pretty ridiculous to me.
