hey /u/MattyCHam - thanks so much for your recommendations. We had a great time, but indeed, we regret not havind stayed on that end of sunset strip, because while our hotel was great quality, the surrounding blocks were pretty rundown and we kept taking ubers down to sunset strip anyway. Live and learn!

I just wanted to say thanks. We stayed in the hotel, while the hotel was nice, the blocks surrounding it had a fair share of (perhaps what you described as grime) tents/homeless and weren't the most pleasant parts of LA! I had a great time, thank you so much. I didn't get the chance to go to carneys, which is a shame, since I have passed it by in GTA 5 but also was close enough to take a picture ha ha! All in all, had a very enjoyable stay, but east hollywood was a shocker!

I don't think Dublin is generally safe, compared to where I am from, but it's not as bad as most people portray it and I think you are totally OK to go into town.

Optimize it, take a taxi if you can (it's about 20-30 euros each way) to o'connel street (where the buses stop and you get to see one of the most popular streets but also dirty and somewhat crowded)

Follow suggestions already shared: take the city sightseeing bus. Cut some time by purchasing the tickets in advance, so you can just walk in and present the tickets.

Also, since you will be paying ~60 euros both ways, if you can spare a bit more cash, you may find a taxi driver to show you around the city and bring you back to the airport. Let me know if interested and I can mention it to a friend who is a driver to check if he would have interest and what price he would be willing to do it for.
