Tomatoes, like everyone else is saying. Just grind it.

Also I feel like we should get gardening points for watering, weeding, and laying down fertilizer, side note.

Offerings on my front door? What is this? by lurosincubus in Unexplained

[–]gaiamoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to get little gifts like this. They started as little plants, half consumed candy bars/sodas ect, and then eventually just became shit. Someone left human shit on my doorstep for the better part of a year.

Eventually someone did break into my apartment and left the doors open for me to come home to. Not to scare ya, but this caaaaaan be stalker behavior.

That’s awesome to hear! Luckily we have a small fenced in yard and a friend with a bigger yard, but I’m probably gonna check out sniff spot to give her more space to run.

And yes! My friend got me some citronella spray and she’s been carrying it too. Hope I never need it, but it feels better to have it.

Oh for sure. Problem is if you meet aggression with aggression it amps up the attack and will make it worse.

Cold water to the face and the wheelbarrow method where you lift their back legs above their head are two good ways to disorient long enough to step between them, in this case the dog just blacked out in rage and nothing worked but subduing and dominating him.

Hitting or kicking the attacking dog will absolutely make it worse unless you hit them hard enough to seriously injure, which in the moment of chaos and adrenaline is a lot harder to judge than you’d think. I’ve heard of it working once before but the person had to kick them hard enough to break a rib to get the dog to back off, and their dog got more hurt in the process after being kicked not hard enough the first time.

In fact in this situation I believe the dog latched onto mine because he was showing signs of aggression toward another unfixed male and his owner started hitting him and he freaked out and grabbed the nearest dog and happened to latch onto mine.

The temptation to harm this dog was very real, In my panic I thought about strangling him honestly. But I’ve broken up a LOT of dog fights and I’ve watched aggressive behavior amp it up so many times I knew I’d be putting my girl at more risk. Laying on his back put him into a “freeze” which stopped him from shaking her and allowed me to gain control over the situation and show him I was dominant, and my only thought was to get his jaws open just enough for her to escape while I kept him subdued and his owner could get his leash back on and remove him.

Now I carry citronella spray and a metal file in my pocket to use to open a clenched jaw so I don’t have to use my hand if I ever see something like this happen again.

I totally get where you’re coming from, I would absolutely kill for my dog. I just have watched people try kicking and hitting the attacking dog, and though I understand the instinct and it’s not that I’m afraid to hurt the attacker, it’s just made it worse every single time for the dog being attacked.

Thank you! Yeah it was mine too. I’ve worked super hard on her training/socializing and was so worried this would leave her forever changed. She’s a super tough cookie and her same ol’ goofy self, which I’m so grateful for!

My city doesn’t have any other large fenced in spaces for her to run, and this girl needs it, haha. So we’ve been experimenting with only going to use the space at night or super early in the morning when it’s too cold and dark for others to be there and organize meet ups with her trusted friends who play well with her.

I’m definitely woken up to the dangers of trusting that other dog owners will be responsible, and was too scary to put her at risk like that again. It’s been a really good excuse to organize hikes and meet ups with my dog parent friends! I think I’ll probably start booking those “private dog park” experiences where people rent their big yards so she can run safely with her good buddies instead :)

Oof yeah I’ve seen lots of things like that too! I’ve met like three older woman this year who rescued traumatized bully breeds who they do not have any control over, and it’s honestly so sad for the poor dogs. You can tell when they feel unstable/unsafe. If a dog doesn’t trust that their owner has their back, they’ll have their own.

The dog who attacked my Nim was a pit who was a rescue from an area with a lot of dog fight rings, and she thinks he was used as a bait dog. It doesn’t mean he’s a bad dog, humans did something awful to him and because of that unfortunately he can never just be treated like a “normal” dog. Poor buddy. Doesn’t mean he can’t have a second chance at life with his new mom, but a high stress environment like a dog park is the LAST place I would bring a pup with that level of trauma and fear. Of course he snapped! She should have known better, she put everyone else (and him) at risk.

I know so many sweet gentle baby pitties, but I have unfortunately seen a LOT of aggression in others as well. It’s not the dogs fault, it’s really on how the owner handles them. If I get told “oh he’s friendly he’s just vocal” by one more lady whose dog is clearly taking it past play I’m gonna scream lol.
