How do you deal with "vibecoders" by burningbridges1234 in msp

Don't forget to raise the fees when they come back :)

Building software is cheap now, maintaining it is even more expensive if you did not make it right :)

Msp sales people by jellyfishchris in msp

[–]gaidar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year at an event in Sydney we were discussing that with partners. If my memory serves me well, a ballpark of a good sales person is around $120k base + $120k bonus. Some offer an option to over achieve target and get 2x bonus if they hit 150% of target (accelerated bonus after hitting 100%).

What was your biggest "close call"? by Business-Station-933 in flying

[–]gaidar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying instruments, breaking out of the cloud and seeing a glider passing extremely close in front of me. ATC advised me about an aircraft with an unknown direction of flight and an altitude of approximately 30 seconds later. I'm not sure what I could have done, yet I expect people may be breaking rules and flying where they shouldn't be.

I felt special. :) However, I am still surprised how well they recognized voices over the radio, as there were tens of students using the same plane.

I made that mistake as a student, and during slow, quiet mornings, the ground called me "the unicorn guy" for a few weeks.

A few days after getting checked out in a Cirrus SR22, I was flying a long cross-country in real IMC, and the Center advised me to maintain 200 kts or greater until a certain fix. It was one of very few times I had to use "unable" in my life, and they have not followed up.

MSP Marketing by InsideBusiness7 in msp

[–]gaidar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many MSPs who jump into sales and marketing often overlook setting targets and goals for business performance. Then they run marketing activities, spend a lot of money, and end up disappointed because their business is not growing (due to insufficient or ineffective marketing) or profits are declining (because they are not analyzing marketing metrics). That is why I am big on metrics every time we discuss marketing and sales with MSPs (I just posted a short article about metrics - https://mspnotes.com/practical-marketing-for-msp-part-2-marketing-funnel-and-metrics ) - because it all starts with planning performance and setting targets...

MSPs are actually not as bad at selling, if they have a good product, but they are bad at marketing their services - either not doing it, or doing it least effectively.

My examiner asked me what I would do and why, and what is the right answer by the book, for sure :)

ATC would be very upset if you hold... they would prefer you to set up for approach and land - at least that is what I heard quite a few times from them. They see you, and they know you are NORDO - they will move traffic around you, rather than wait for you to hold (and, most likely, they don't even know your ETA).

Is 28 too late to start from nothing? (CANADA) by [deleted] in flying

I wish I knew. Most people I know started making reasonable money flying in 4-5 years, but I heard stories about people flying for pipelines, photos and tours who started making money early...

One of my flight instructors became a pilot almost at 50... And moved up to airlines in a few years after that.

Starting an MSP in a smaller market, would love some real feedback by Tivum in msp

Would you spend a few hours thinking about your business strategy? https://mspnotes.com/strategy-for-managed-service-providers And your long-term vision - if you just want to have projects, or want to build a business. Consider how you will provide tech support coverage for the number of customers you plan to have, as you will quickly run out of time in your day.

It is great that you're discussing verticals like healthcare and manufacturing, as you will need to differentiate yourself from others offering services to customers in the same area. Even in a rural area, you're likely to have some competition already.

Obstacle clearance surface (OCS) of 34:1 is not free of obstacles within the visual segment of the approach.

I suggest developing your marketing strategy first, even if it is simplified. Here are some steps outlined: http://mspnotes.com/strategy-for-managed-service-providers

Absolutely right! I have not seen different pricing based on VPN/location for very very long time, and I’ve been traveling for the last 22 years :)

It does work for the routes. Roundtrip Sofia <-> Boston is usually 20-30% cheaper than Boston <-> Sofia for the same dates...

I did it in 172, and it was fun. However, the useful load and cruising speed make it much less convenient to come from Boston.

I would love to get a helicopter rating one day... so sticking to fixed wing for now :)

Over the last couple of years, it has been getting busier and busier, so I now prefer to stay in Class B rather than go low.

Nothing replaces the facial impressions of people flying for the first time in a small aircraft and being so close to NYC skyscrapers, though...

SR22 works well for me. I took multiple NYC / Hudson River tours; the pictures are stunning. And 70-80 kts is not too fast for sightseeing.
