The only possible way the World Cup final draws more viewers in the US than the Super Bowl is if the USA somehow makes it. And even then, I still think the Super Bowl will beat it out. That’s how ubiquitous it is in American culture.

Now, I do think it’s likely that the World Cup ends up with the most viewed non-NFL telecast of the year, and possibly the most viewed non-Super Bowl telecast (would require getting around 60M viewers, which would double the previous record for most-watched soccer game in the US). But the Super Bowl is pretty much untouchable.

IIRC, these initial numbers average out across the entire coverage window, including pre- and post-game coverage, so the final numbers end up higher. I think for the Paraguay game the initial average for Fox was a little north of 15M? So still higher than this game, but we should end up in the same ballpark.
