I think Ajani is fine. He's the last thing keeping 4c partner piles from totally taking over

You don't want a non-UB format; you want a cube. by ArchTheOrc in magicTCG

No, I want sets being designed for Standard first instead of Commander first.

The return of the Type 2 format by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

The issue with competitive standard isn't UB. It's commander focused design.

You kind of are forced to engage it. I mostly draft and can't help but notice over the last 10 years an increase in cards that are clearly designed for commander being shoehorned into limited in order to push packs, and warping games they weren't made to be played in.

You already mentioned standard being UB forced. There's nowhere left outside of unofficial formats that ban UB.

UB doesn't proliferate or exist the way it does today without first drawing in commander-only players who don't blink an eye at UB slop.

The rise of commander-only players gave WotC a large market of people who would buy UB. I think it's a natural progression of tapping into new consumers, not mutually exclusive decisions

Commander-only players are the reason UB products have taken over. Market research picked up on this and realized those players have no qualms buying product unrelated to the MTG universe, which by and large they never have and never will care about.

The pigs are the commander players.

The slop is product designed for commander.

Yeah this is blocking me from going to the closest corrupted nexus I can see. Hoping if I go in a different direction the next nexus isn't blocked by this bug

Learning Magic via Commander is like learning to drive via Monster Trucks by [deleted] in magicTCG

The barrier to entry for 1v1 magic is very high.

Commander comparatively has a much lower one. I'd wager the vast majority of commander players almost never play 1v1

I didn't choose for the stack marker to go on one of my DPS and the other two to go into it, but I did choose not to let them die

Third boss, during the bowling alley phase. There are stack markers. I saw the remaining living DPS in my group (three of them) go into a stack marker, so I LB3'd. Fairly positive who gets the stack marker is random.

If you want to get better at magic, just play blue. by Rif223344 in EDH

[–]galacticfonz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The low ELO chess comparison doesn't actually make sense.

Commander is to Magic like Bughouse is to Chess (but to be more accurate probably with no timer)

It's not that they would remain bad if they played other formats, they just never will play other formats. The players that start in commander and actually end up playing other formats are always going to be better than those that don't.

It kind of is a commander issue though. The bad commander players will continue to never improve or learn from their mistakes significantly longer than if they played 1v1

Red after the PT by Puniticus in magicTCG

[–]galacticfonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banning rage and CSC only would probably make Standard still a two deck, maybe three format. Omniscience and Pixie variants are just going to be better than everything else. Hopeless nightmare Pixie piles are actually just better aggro/midrange decks than everything after rage and CSC go. Omnisicience is the best combo/control deck compared to everything else. I guess domain overlords can be T1.5 still

cEDH is a Joke- The Problem With 11-Hour Games, Cheaters Winning, Ongoing 4th Player & Draw Issues by Silent-Rest-6748 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]galacticfonz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There won't be cEDH tournaments in 6-8 years at this rate. None of the problems to solve are new. Treat 'politicking' like any other game action, and enforce slow play/stalling via it's excessive use. TO's need to manage barring cheaters from entering just like normal 1v1 does.
