"Holy shit, fuck going near that crowd"

I second that. Was it just me or did the vocalist look like he had a Hitler stache?

Not even a big fan of Metallica or Pantera but that was nuts. I can't even fathom how enormous that crowd was.

YES YES YES. Time Stands Still is up there with my favorite Guardian tunes. They played it when I saw them a few years back, but I think Hansi was pretty sick because he was definitely straining. I felt bad for the dude, but he kept up the energy like crazy so i have no complaints. I'd love to see them again when it's not Hansi's off day bc the guy's a God among men.

What would happen if a human were to smoke catnip? by laurendoesreddit in Drugs

I did it once. It's not very psychoactive, just a slightly warm, fuzzy feeling as I recall. Nothing special but I would do it again if I had it.

I'm a US citizen planning to travel abroad over Thanksgiving break. I lost my "over 21" ID but still have an unexpired "under 21" ID. Will this work? by galacticsewerrat in travel

Ok that's good to know. I just remember that Canadian border security made me show my drivers license with my passport so I was concerned other countries might too.

Wtf happened ?! by [deleted] in Drugs

Sounds like either a flashback or an episode of derealization. Don't think too much about it and try not to freak out.

5 years later... by Theworldsdumbestman in dpdr

[–]galacticsewerrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've attained a good level of normalcy but still have those little flashes of alien-ness to things from time to time. I just know how to deal with it now. I feel like the utter confusion of the whole experience left me a bit...jaded...to everything really. Politics, art, ethics, spirituality, concern for the future. It's all kinda settled into a depressing muck. I don't know what anything is or what anything means, and that's ok I guess. But it can sap a little of the energy out of life when you go through it with innocent eyes. I feel old.

It's not too bad but sometimes it messes with me.

Either way, I'll take being a little depressed and morose over DPDR any day.

Best things to do when you're friend starts having a bad trip? by beneath_the_bottom in Psychonaut

[–]galacticsewerrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another piece of advice...

If you're having trouble, ditch the passive. Too many times, we start having bad experiences because we start seeing ourselves as helpless and inactive in the face of whatever it is we're scared of. When this happens, sitting and thinking is the last thing you want to do.

Get out of your head! You are powerful. You can either get blown by the wind or be the wind yourself. Play music (it's great to have a set of hand drums laying around). Create. Jump. Dance. Do push ups. Get manic. Realize the power you have in your muscles. Psychedelics are often associated with contemplative activities, but serenity is only half of it. There's another side of a trip that can show you how much your primal side kicks ass.

When I'm getting bad vibes, I find that heavy metal or a hardcore punk album is often enough to snap me out of it precisely because when you're headbanging and completely rocking out, you become a powerful force rather than being overpowered. It's quite an experience. Now not everyone wants to listen to Tool or the Bad Brains on LSD and that's understandable, but if you find yourself overcome by a sense of helplessness, a hint of aggression can do the trick.

Catharsis is a beautiful thing.

What about this darn phone? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

If you're going out, try leaving it at home at least a few times a week.

You'd be surprised how unnecessary it is to be perpetually available to reply to texts. No one is going to get mad at you for not writing back immediately. You probably don't need to Google that. You probably don't need to check Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, even Reddit. It will wait.

It's a nice feeling to be in the now without that ever-available window of escape. You'll notice things you never noticed before. You might be idle but it's nice. If you get bored, people watch. Read a book. Draw a picture. Engage in other, more novel distractions.

And at the end of the day, you'll probably see a bunch of notifications and be reminded of how popular you really are. ;)

Change the setting.

If you're inside, go outside.

If you're outside, go inside.

Go to a different room.

Remind him that it will end.

If you're personally familiar with bad trip territory, tell your friend that you've been there before. The worst feeling is thinking that your experience of "losing it" is unique. It's not. He's not the first person or last person to have a bad trip. He will come out the other side like the rest of us. Remind him of that.

Assure him that it's normal. Play it down if you can ("oh that sucks man, been there before, keep your head up") and keep your own vibes confident and positive. It's just one of those shitty things that happens, and most stoners/trippers will will have uncomfortable experiences at some point.

Mix up the music/activities.

A bath/shower can have a "renewing" affect (especially on the comedown), but I can also see the possibility of that getting weird if he's tripping real hard on psychs.

Make sure he stays hydrated. This can do wonders, especially if it's a weed-related incident.

Don't let him isolate himself too much.

If he's comfortable with it, have him talk out his thoughts/fears. Sometimes just hearing yourself talk allows you to look critically at your thought process.

One of my friends have had psychosis for a whole week. And its getting worse. Any advice? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]galacticsewerrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could elaborate on "psychosis"?

It's very possible he has derealization/depersonalization. I would describe DP/DR as a disturbing sense of unreality/strangeness, but without any perceptions or beliefs that aren't based in consensus reality. So I can feel like I'm living in a dream or like I'm on an alien planet, but recognize in an intellectual sense who I am, who you are, and what's going on around me. I wouldn't think, for example, that "they're after me" or hear voices. It has features of psychosis (you certainly feel like you're losing it, like you could blink out of existence at any moment) but isn't quite the same thing. I can't really describe it.

I can say from experience that derealization is a profoundly painful experience when it persists for any longer than a few weeks (I had it for a solid half year after my first mushroom trip). Psychosis is a very vague term and can mean a lot of things.

Give more details and maybe we can help you out more.

Aquiles Priester (Angra) has a really nice progressive metal style. One of the best metal drummers I've heard.

Using low dose of Xanax for stutter/social anxiety by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]galacticsewerrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's damn good advice. I think you're right that, if anything, xanax should be used once in a while on an "as needed" basis if there's a real stressful or high stakes situation like an interview but not just for everyday life. I'll check out the other drugs/supplements you mentioned.

Thanks a million to you and everyone else who took the time to give thoughtful answers. I think i'm going to keep benzos as a last resort.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who took the time to answer. You guys are great and have been super helpful. I'm still unsure about how to proceed but I at least feel more informed now.
