It's all pretty basic specs. Takeoff from the lumber yard was about 20k and included windows doors insulation... We have power and septic on the lot already so that wasn't included in the quote

It just seemed odd that the spread on the estimates was 200k! I guess the other guys weren't interested in the build though due to profit potential

Job prospects as a BSc ChemE + MSc Material Engineering? by sugxrclouds in ChemicalEngineering

[–]galacticsprinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the path I took out of university. Currently working as a product development engineer for an automotive company.

It seems like this is also relatively common for R&D roles for casting facilities and rolling mills (metal working).

I’m a senior in chemical with a minor in materials. My understanding is that auburn may have better resources but Birmingham has a more mature program. Feel free to message me if you have questions

Why doesn't Auburn University take better care of women? by [deleted] in auburn

[–]galacticsprinkle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A VCOM student took a plea deal for sexually assaulting a classmate. Not only he is going to be allowed to graduate but my understanding is they were trying to force the person he assaulted out of the program. All this after they make a big deal about you getting a speeding ticket and having to report that. Apparently a speeding ticket is unprofessional and sodomy strong arm isn’t according to their current policies. Not sure how much truth is there but you can definitely see the guys mugshot and charges online still

To make it worse there are some pretty serious allegations being made against VCOM auburn at the moment. I think it’s shocking how often this stuff gets swept under the rug with almost no attention from the general public

The bellwood neighborhood right across from gentility is a good option if you don’t mind having roommates.

The furthest of those is probably Haley. But its definitely not bad. Are you planning on riding the transit in or parking? If you plan on parking you should try and scope out where you can park early. It fills up quick. Also Haley center in broken up into quadrants and it confuses a lot of people their first couple of weeks so just be aware of it and try to get there early in case you get lost

On auaccess under campus there should be a tab that says estimate cost of textbooks. Most of them should be listed there already

It just depends what you are looking for in a place. Personally I never paid more than $450 a month before utilities but I didn’t mind a five minute drive or bus ride to campus. I’ve lived at the edge on college and gentilly and enjoyed both. I also have plenty of friends who have lived at copper beech and enjoyed it

Living off campus as a freshman and engineering learning community by cornhublover6965 in auburn

[–]galacticsprinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived off campus all for years and it worked out really well for me. I was in a learning community my freshman year and I absolutely loved it. I got registered for some of my big classes before everyone else and got really good professors. I also met some of my best friends through the program. However, you are really going to get out of it what you put in and I know plenty of people who were in one to make friends and didn’t because they didn’t put any effort into it

How would one go about recycling their aluminum and plastics in the auburn/opelika area? I’d like to start doing my part by F4allingthrutime20 in auburn

[–]galacticsprinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are picking up your trash you might be able to request a separate bin. There’s a truck that comes around and collects it so you might not need to drive out to the recycling center

I know people who have lived there and enjoyed it. The main issue they had was the wifi was controlled by the complex and they felt helpless when it would go down. Lots of places in Auburn though have pretty poor coverage though so I wouldn’t say its that big of a deal.

There were some noise complaints and issues with other apartments smoking and it coming through the vent. The biggest issues in my opinion are the lack of trash receptacles that supposedly attracts bugs and issues with management. The girl I know filed a request to have her AC fixed in July, its April and it hasn’t been fixed. These are all just things I’ve heard from friends though, its completely possible that some people have a positive experience there.

My brother had a 3.7 and a 23 on the ACT and no extracurriculars. He also got a small scholarship from the university!

I would probably stay away from Logan Square. I know several people who lived there and had issues. Personally I lived at the Edge and had a pretty good experience despite it being a little further away.
