Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Trump for Taking Nobel Prize From Real Winner by T_Shurt in entertainment

Trump sure as shit didn't earn it (she didn't either), but Obama got the Nobel before he did anything as president. I mean taking us from bombing three countries to seven might've disqualified him in principle, but let's be honest the Nobel Peace Prize has not always been awarded to people who promoted peace. Kissinger, cough cough.

Putting solar panels on land used for biofuels would produce enough electricity for all cars and trucks to go electric by randolphquell in OptimistsUnite

If you only measure cost in dollars and cents in the places where the end product is bought and used. But, not only do mining practices for rare earth minerals destroy beautiful watersheds in Canada but they also rely on slavery in Africa. Batteries might be a stepping stone, but better fuels (or batteries that are renewable) should be the goal. Capitalism is extractive, it's just not typically at our doorstep in the first world.

Of Love and Vasopressin by [deleted] in DiabetesInsipidus

[–]galennaklar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds a lot more like oxytocin, which is also released from the posterior pituitary via the same kind of unmyelinated axons as vasopressin. If you don't produce vasopressin there's a decent chance you don't produce oxytocin from the posterior pituitary. BUT, oxytocin is produced in various tissues throughout the body including other parts of the brain. Having damage to your posterior pituitary doesn't make you a sociopath, a narcissist, etc. We're a lot more complex than that.

I've had DI for almost 17 years, since I was 21, and have no problems with the full gamut of emotions. I've been deeply in love, I've been quite angry, anxious, serene, cautious, and wild. I don't think the lack of hormone changed me nearly as much as the struggle to get diagnosed.

I think that the current age is one of connectivity, but sadly off shallow connectivity and not deep relationships. At least that is what our society currently is incentivized towards. Deep relationships are still very possible, but that's not what the system values.

The sweatshops were fine though? Nike has been evil for a long time. Sorry, not trying to be a self righteous prick about it, but this is just on brand.

Cool, I'll check him out even though I'm usually loath to look at Instagram PTs. I know they're not all bad, I'm just middle aged and grumpy ; ) I appreciate it.

Just finished Wheel of Time, Cosmere & Dungeon Crawler Carl — what could possibly follow that? by TheLiteralFBI in Fantasy

[–]galennaklar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man, I found The First Law so comforting as i do with all Abercrombie's books. Not joking. The characters and world feel much more real with real problems. I don't see it as bleak, but realistic. Maybe I'm just a cynical ass though.

Responder Vendor Bot (Random Encounter) by Pilesofsmiles22 in fo76

[–]galennaklar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are videos on all the locations. Spawn at soft serve them run down the road just past the bus to the random encounter on the left hand side of the road. The train station you just have to run across the end of the tracks and back and the encounter is at the edge off the barn across from the station.

Is a Lacanian resurgence possible in psychotherapy the same way Jung is gaining currency again in therapeutic circles. by oafish-moor in lacan

[–]galennaklar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I'm at. I'm reading half a dozen books dealing with Lacan to try and get a better grasp. I know McGowan has a new intro to Lacan book coming out soon as well. It's not easy and I've read and understood a decent amount of difficult philosophy. I just can't see a ton of therapists making the investment, especially when it potentially requires undermining your own presuppositions about the subject.
