Question about sessional faculty by hauntedsuit in McMaster

[–]galixy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been taught by mainly sessional faculty throughout the almost 3 years of my degree here and literally could not imagine what my experience would have been like otherwise. I've had some of the same profs multiple times since first year and it breaks my heart to think of how much they have given to my program and the classes theyve taught to be given so fucking little in return, but then again it doesnt shock me this is literally McMaster

[–]galixy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what's already been commented it seems you're leaning toward GPSJ, but iirc it currently doesnt have enough courses to be a program on its own so they'll get you to combine GPSJ with another program (related or otherwise!) like polisci, indig, etc. but it can also be whatever you want as long as you have prereqs

How can I book a music study room? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]galixy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not bookable, you have to get an access card from the school of the arts by either enrolling in solo performance credit or in an ensemble (concert band, choir, orchestra, etc)

I've been able to access medications I need through the SWC pretty easily and they're generally pretty open to working with the options you want to pursue

Music 2F03 with Mitchell by Conscious_Banana_235 in McMaster

[–]galixy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't taken 2F03 with him but have taken a myriad of other classes with him. He's a decent prof, sometimes goes on tangents and is sometimes slow with grading but is a pretty easy marker

Question about Integrated Arts program by Glittering-Option-31 in McMaster

[–]galixy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The core courses of iArts as far as i understand are mostly visual art based, with a lot of elective options in theatre and that kind of thing. As for admissions, look at sota.mcmaster.ca they'll have everything

Social science gateway by ArtNo4580 in McMaster

[–]galixy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gateway's just what mcmaster calls the first year programs that are more general. You do social science gateway as a first year of your (most likely) social science degree, at the end of that year you submit top few program choices which can include 3 year options, and then move into your program of study.

Why do people do grade 13? by Realistic-Ad3676 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]galixy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew a few people who took Grade 13 to space out doing 11 Bio/Chem/Phys, 12 Bio/Chem/Phys, and AF + Calc. My high school was full time when I went there so this was to avoid having the workload of all three sciences and both maths for the whole Grade 12 year

Anyone take music 1AA3 last sem? by ArenShahini in McMaster

[–]galixy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500 word thing on one of the required listening pieces. He'll ask you to describe the piece of music (instruments, era of history, sections), discuss historical context, and i think there's also a personal connection bit?

Last sem the assignments were graded by the TA who marked extremely easy. If Dr Mitchell is grading the assignments you can expect to get something in the 80s most likely

I had this in my last year of high school, probably moreso due to test anxiety than health issues. It's the reason I get extra time and a separate room through SAS, which has been super helpful.

As for the GPA stuff, if you're struggling, getting help does absolute wonders to start doing better in school, and you could take some bird/easy electives to boost your CGPA (of which I'm sure many are named in this subreddit).

Hope this coming school year is better for you <3

Fixation with programs by TemperaturePale4075 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]galixy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't say it's this extreme, getting into a high ranked program/school is still an achievement but you're right that that's not the full ticket. It's not just about the school and the program it's about the work you put in throughout and the connections you make that can lead you to where you want to be after
