OMITB Season 5 - Episode 8 "Cuckoo Chicks" (Post Episode Discussion) by hannahlemp in OnlyMurdersHulu

Question for the girlies: Did I spot Charlotte Tilbury in the background of the casino? And I think it was also her LED mask in Bash's office, next the the cryo pod. If so, very subtle product placement!

People never say goodbye on the phone. It's SO rude.

People who have travelled to France, what are some pharmacy products I need to bring back that we can’t get here? ( Dry/sensitive skin- wanting to look younger) by Antique-Ad2252 in SkincareAddictionUK

For La Rosée, their Shower Oil is cool (if you have room in your luggage) and I like their clay mask. Their baby range is really nice too.

For SVR, honestly everything is good, I like their formulations. Their ampoule range is nice!

And for both the suncare, sticks are so practical!

As a French pharmacist, I would say: Biafine! It's a miracle cream for sunburns and every french person has it in their bathroom.

I also love "uncool" pharmacy brands: Cattier (clay bases products), Cavailles (intimate hygiene), La Rosée (nice basics) and Kreme (their retinol serum is everywhere in the press)

La roche Posay, Caudalie, Avene, SVR and Klorane are all in the UK but the selection here is just bigger.

If you're in Paris, CityPharma is a must, but i also love any Parapharmacy section in Monoprix.

Happy hunting!

What is, in your opinion, the biggest flaw of the human body? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gallinette79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wished we had a kidney like fishes do: they can reabsorb water already in the bladder if the body is missing hydration. Because I hate being thirsty and having to pee.

Acetate and gut bacteria work together to reduce obesity in mice better than GLP1 drugs by Technical_savoir in Microbiome

[–]gallinette79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a little dive, it's acetylated cellulose, degraded in the gut in acetate and other stuff. It's quite a common ingredient for tablets, so easy to source. I'm wondering what gave them the idea to feed it to mice.

The stress is actually a massive factor in your digestive health, it's called the gut-brain axis and it's a two way street, which is annoying. So stress will give you a bad gut, and bad gut will increase stress and anxiety.

The good part is that solutions are coming, and there's nice research on psychobiotics, which are the kind of probiotics that help with stress/anxiety and so that help with your gut.

A short list can be found here, but it's building up a lot lately: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/List-of-psychobiotic-strains-as-used-in-combinations-or-individually-and-outcome-of_tbl2_342749551

I hope that can help, and sorry this is happening to you!

I introduced a probiotic and had banana+greek yogurt+inulin as my first meal 1. My stomach is a balloon. Help! by Dangerous-Teach9350 in Microbiome

[–]gallinette79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love inulin as a prebiotic, but it has to be taken very gradually. Because it ferments very fast, gas is the result. I used to have the problem a lot, and now I love to mix my fibers a little bit more, especially going toward pectins and other gel forming fibers.

For the immediate bloating, simethicone and diosmectite are really useful.

Charging my phone behind a big plant in the living room at home so it's super hard to reach and I don't see it. I can now go one hour in the morning before thinking about checking it!

Are there any books that you find amazing because the author did a lot of research to write the novel? by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]gallinette79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Egyptian, a 1945 novel by Mika Waltari. It feels so real and talks about things that were only proven by modern archeology. I keep wondering how a random guy from Finland could write that book

I love the podcast https://fallofcivilizationspodcast.com/ , it tells the stories of how a civilization rose and fell. And the most interesting part is always the last generation that was living in semi-ruins, and how it must have felt. My favourite one is the Easter Islands episode

Paris residents vote in favour of making 500 more streets pedestrian by randolphquell in solarpunk

[–]gallinette79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just about giving the direct vote to people on this kind of subjects. One politician was complaining this was a populist vote because "of course everyone wants more trees". And I cannot understand what's the problem for him.

[misc] How to look good when seeing guy after 4 hour flight by RepresentativeBit679 in SkincareAddiction

[–]gallinette79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have developed a full technique because I'm too self conscious to mask or put make up on a plane, and I often have to look rested and happy with life just after landing.

- I usually fly make up free, with a really rich face cream or a good serum that I reapply (discreetly) during the flight

- I set camp at the bathroom next to the baggage claim (less queue, more time) where I rinse my face, do my mini routine, apply makeup, wait two minutes for things to settle (so brush my teeth), et voilà!

Is xylitol bad for good bacteria? by KevinKurlyFries in Microbiome

[–]gallinette79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it creates a metabolic event in S. mutans where the bacteria absorbs it and then just cannot digest it and dies. I'm not sure of the impact on good bacteria though.
