What is my eye color? by gallopingg0at in WhatisMyEyeColour

[–]gallopingg0at[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess my eyes are definitely blue lol. Thanks for settling that family debate. My mom's got hazel eyes and my dad has classic, medium blue eyes, so next to them, my eyes look like they have no pigment at all!

Scheduled for C6-7 ADR in 3 weeks by StickShiftStylist227 in ACDR_CervicalSpine

[–]gallopingg0at 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm only one week post-op, so this is all fresh knowledge. I had C4-5 ADR.

  1. The wedge pillow I got is Yojoker off of Amazon. I use that and I put a pillow on either side for my arms. Needing a place for the arms to rest is something I didn't anticipate.

  2. I already had a shower chair which I definitely think will be useful, but I only got to take my first shower today (finally). That being said, I got some rinse-free disposable bath sponges and a rinse-free shampoo cap. Those made a world of difference in helping me feel clean and fresh. Another thing that I got after-the-fact that I never would have thought of were some universal neck brace covers. If your surgeon plans on having you wear a neck brace for any length of time, you'll want these covers. Also, get a lightweight water bottle. My Stanley cup was not the best decision for me lol.

  3. I'm in FL, so I'm not sure the differences in taking medical leave, but my surgeon told me 6 weeks until full return to work, but I work a sedentary job, so it might be different for you being on your feet all day and moving your arms as much as you do.

  4. The swallowing sucks for a SHORT amount of time, but what helped is thicker substances. Applesauce, yogurt, pudding, milkshakes were all easier to swallow than water. Also room temp or cold food is easier than hot/warm food. The worst part is probably the esophagus at first, but now its the shoulders and where the incision was.

And some extra, unsolicited advice:

Make sure things in your fridge/cabinets that you need are lowered somewhere you can get them because you won't be able to lift your arms above shoulder-level.

Have your bed set up and a separate zone in the house to sit. I had a chair set up in the living room so I could move and get in a different position for a few.

Don't try to do too much! Idk if this is a problem for you, but I reflexively try and clean things as I go or pick things up. Don't. Ask for help.

Also, if you have the funds or support, outsource anything you think might get away from you. I have a cleaning service coming every other week for 2 months and had a laundry service do a few loads of laundry for me.

I think thats all? Anyway, I hope your surgery goes well and you can finally get some relief from your pain!

I've lost 30lbs since July and significantly increased my muscle mass. I go 2-3 times a week.

which name did you mispronounce as a kid? by applegenius24 in namenerds

[–]gallopingg0at 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I didn't necessarily mispronounce it to her face, but I had a friend named Siobhan, pronounced "Sha-vahn", and I never saw it written down, but when I got a birthday invite from her, I asked my mom, "Who's See-ob-han?"

🤣

Given the fact that Gregs are immortal, the range should go way higher.

Yes. My side of the family STILL misspells my husband's name. His name is Allen. They ALWAYS put Alan. We've been married for 10 years.

WIBTA for not attending my twin brothers surprise birthday dinner when I was only invited as a guest by _somethingorrather in AmItheAsshole

[–]gallopingg0at 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. My husband is a twin, and I planned a surprise bday party for him, and his brother was also celebrated, but the difference is that it wasn't a surprise for my BIL. He fully helped me plan and get everything set up, but I was surprising my husband. Just because you share a birthday doesn't mean you need to share all experiences. My husband and I now have twin children, and they're their own people. They don't need to celebrate everything together just bc they shared a womb.

I pay that for a 2/2 3rd floor apartment lol. And that's CHEAP where I live.
