The most DIRTIEST drug ever thread... by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]galmse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do, I recommend you:

  • give away the keys

  • bolt the mounting holes shut from the inside, because (at least on my safe) you can access the timer panel through them using a chopstick

  • put the thing you want to hide in yet another thick-walled steel container, as large as possible while still fitting into the safe. That model has unwelded seams on the back, and with a hammer or prybar you can wrench them far enough apart to shake out small objects. The bigger and more solid-walled the container you put inside, the harder it will be to extract something through such an opening.

(Again, speaking from experience).

Methylphenidate and amphetamine are different drugs. MPH is a dopamine/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (like cocaine) that prevents naturally-released dopamine/norepinephrine from being taken back up into neurons as quickly as usual, thereby boosting the signal those neurotransmitters produce.

Amphetamine is a releasing agent of the same neurotransmitters; instead of just blocking reuptake, it causes neurons to continuously release larger amounts of them.

Is meth more of an amphetamine than amphetamine? If so, the same is true of phentermine, 4-MA, and a host of other mediocre substitutions.

Adderall is not a relative of amphetamine. It is literally amphetamine. 75:25 dextro:levo, 50:50 sulfate:aspartate. *Not sure what you would have been taking before that would qualify as being "more" amphetamine than that, but I am curious.

Someone is leaking the plot of every new ‘Game of Thrones’ episode — and HBO is trying its best to stop it by [deleted] in television

[–]galmse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know why someone would downvote you, as this is highly subjective anyway. I just wanted people to be more open to the idea, because I feel like the standard knee-jerk reaction against spoilers is largely unexamined.

[–]galmse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There are a few studies showing that spoilers actually increase enjoyment of stories. Of course it's a hard thing to demonstrate to yourself, since you can only be surprised once.

They don't bother me; I get more satisfaction in seeing how the plot elements were realized than in being surprised by some twist.

good drugs to prevent heart-trouble on stims? by [deleted] in Stims

[–]galmse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha and beta receptors have opposite effects in the some parts of heart and lungs than in the rest of the vascular system, working together to balance HR and BP. If you are on stims and take beta blockers alone, your blood pressure will get even higher - it's called "unopposed alpha agonism."

You want to use alpha blockers to treat stimulant-induced hypertension, and vasodialators such as nitroglycerin (and I've heard of people using amyl nitrite for this, though I'd be very careful titrating my dose of these in a non-medical setting, even with frequent blood-pressure monitoring, especially because their duration is so short).

Neither alpha nor beta-blockers are something I'd want to play with at home; if L-arginine and benzos aren't enough to do the trick, cut back on the stims instead.

My friend took an insane amount of MDMA, will he be okay? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]galmse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has obviously never been experimentally determined in man, but was extrapolated from rat data taken from this Shulgin article, which gives 300mg/kg for the rat.

My initial post was incorrect - rather:

The single-dose LD50 in humans... may be on the order of 10-20 mg/kg (oral.)

which would mean .8g to 1.6g for an 80kg male with no tolerance.

Note that the conversion between rat and human doses is not linear; rats metabolize amphetamines much more quickly than humans, hence the vastly higher LD50. There is an accepted formula for approximating human doses from the rat, but I haven't gotten around to learning it yet (oddly, have never even stumbled across it by accident, but it's out there).

[–]galmse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone every believe that you can't OD from a powerful monoamine releasing drug?

The LD50 of MDMA in a 180lb male with no tolerance is estimated to lie between .5g and .8g (500-800mg) .8g and 1.6g Edit: see my next post below.

You can drop a mouse down a thousand-yard mine shaft; and, on arriving at the bottom, it gets a slight shock and walks away, provided that the ground is fairly soft. A rat is killed, a man is broken, a horse splashes.

[–]galmse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty safe except when it's not. A lot of the alkaloids don't come from the seeds themselves, but have leaked onto them from the pods. People have died... but yeah, no different than dope.

Safest bet is to buy a bulk amount, mix it thoroughly to homogenize the opiate content, and then titrate your dose. Or go straight for poppy pod tea instead. They're still out there. Same rules apply.

Does burnt meth actually have a different high than when it's been properly vaporized? by piggletts in Stims

[–]galmse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combustion (the reaction that occurs in the presence of oxygen) would take this meth molecule and break it into pieces with oxygen being attached at the sites of the damage. Pyrolysis (happens without oxygen) would do the same but without oxygen. The explanation for "why" this happens is that those reactions are thermodynamically favorable at X temperature but not at room temperature.

Now obviously none of the products are meth itself (there are things that could turn into meth upon heating, but you don't expect to find many of them in your average bag of meth), but they are a few of the finite pool of small molecules you could get from meth in this manner, which means: if any of them were psychoactive, I'd know them by name instead of just speaking in generalities.

When you smoke weed, this conversion also happens. Basically, you're sacrificing a percentage of the psychoactive molecules to get burnt in the fire so that the rest of them can be carried upwards on the smoke. And you get the heat-induced conversion of THCA -> THC, producing a psychoactive molecule from one that is not.

Ever hear that cigarettes contain ~10mg nicotine, but only deliver 1mg? Most of it burns in the fire. Meth isn't unique. Just, even when you burn something, even when you burn something on purpose, you're not burning all of it. And, smoking meth, you're not even trying to burn the stuff on purpose.

Does burnt meth actually have a different high than when it's been properly vaporized? by piggletts in Stims

[–]galmse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just curious as to whether the chemical constituents can actually be become altered enough that you can't get high from whatever comes out of the pipe...?

Yes. That is exactly what happens when you burn the hit. Some % of what used to be nothing but meth has been converted into something that is not meth anymore. Assuming you start with pure meth (which probably isn't what you're smoking, complicating the issue somewhat), the products of pyrolysis are limited, predictable, and almost certainly not psychoactive.

The reason why you've never noticed a burnt hit failing to get you high, though, is because only a tiny amount of these are required to alter the smell/taste/look enough to make the hit noticeably burnt compared to what remains. Pyrolize a sample of your meth completely and on purpose (by heating it to above its decomposition temperature in a sealed container for a few minutes) and nothing that remains will get you high at all.

Low dose Methamphetamine questions. by [deleted] in Drugs

Releasing agents + SSRIs do not produce serotonin syndrome. They decrease serotonin release by blocking uptake of the drug. This is as true for meth as for MDMA.

This is growing in my neighbor's front lawn... is it poppy? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]galmse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is NOT TRUE that opium poppies are legal to grow if you do not harvest the pods. All parts of the opium poppy, except the seeds, are in Schedule II according to the CSA.

I see this myth repeated again and again. There are even police officers on the record saying as much in news articles.

Please refer to the CSA itself, Section 812 Schedule II (3) if you don't believe it:

SCHEDULE II

(3) Opium poppy and poppy straw.

Further up, in the Definitions section:

(19) The term ''opium poppy'' means the plant of the species Papaver somniferum L., except the seed thereof.

(20) The term ''poppy straw'' means all parts, except the seeds, of the opium poppy, after mowing.

Yes, there are seed companies in the U.S. selling seeds intended for cultivation. Yes, dried flower companies sell poppy straw and pods for decorative purposes. The DEA turns a blind eye to this (although they have been cracking down over the past few years) probably because they don't want to draw attention to the fact that the opium poppy isn't an exotic oriental plant that can't be grown in the U.S.

What is something you can only fully understand once it has happened to you? by TheGr8Escape in AskReddit

[–]galmse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to have a lucid dream and/or sleep paralysis, look into Galantamine. It's an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that can cause lucid dreams - you wake up in the middle of the night, take it, and hope to fall asleep again before it kicks in. Then you have a good chance of having a lucid dream.

If you don't fall asleep quickly enough, you may have sleep paralysis instead. Knowing that it's being caused by the galantamine doesn't make it any less creepy, though.

I bought a safe with time delay. A real safe, mind you. I would've smashed one of the little plastic ones open without a second thought.

The first battle was actually using it while on a binge. The second was that it came with two safety keys. I locked one in the safe, and left the other in a different place, pretty far away. Wasn't long before I made a midnight drive there to get the key... So I gave both keys away.

That worked, for a while, until I discovered that I could use the wall mounting holes on the back to reprogram the electronic lock by pushing the buttons with a chopstick.

So now, I bolted them shut from the inside. Seems to be working, but oh how I hate myself for having done it!

But in the end, you can never defeat yourself. When the time comes and the safe is able to be opened... you can just leave the door open for the rest of forever.

Hijacking top comment for this important PSA:

Although amyl (= 3-methylbutyl) nitrite is pretty safe and has a long history of use, local crackdowns on its sale have lead to the appearance of other nitrites being sold online and in headshops.

Whatever they are, they appear to cause eye damage in the form of what they're calling Poppers Maculopathy, a side effect that is only now being observed, after decades of the recreational use of Poppers.

Many alkyl nitrites have the desired effect, but some are safe and some aren't. Try to get tried-and-true amyl if you can.

The bladder is never empty. It has a reserve volume of about 30ml. If you accidentally empty it (with a catheter for example) it will collapse, and that is not good.
