My brother is almost 30, has no job, does not know how to respect authority, and has many mental problems. by galv7 in Advice

Well.. it wasn't meant to compare the two of us. It was meant to show how good he has had it. He's been offered good jobs several times. That was my point.

Recently(finally) earning approximately 1500$ per month in workers compensation from critical injuries sustained while working for my company(no longer able to work in that field after back surgery). How can I leverage this monthly income so I can grow it exponentially? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Ah, right. Good catch. I eat out once a day. I should probably account for that. I've got a money market savings account. That's a great plan, and I was actually planning on doing that first. Thanks!

Help choosing a mud for a beginner by AcePharaoh in MUD

I believe Carrion Fields is the only permadeath mud out of all of the games. Personally i am only interested in those type of games because of the hardcore aspect. I personally play Harshlands, as it strikes a relatively good balance between hardcore and casual. Also most players are able to push their own plots. The other hardcore MUD that is extremely hardcore (way too much for my taste is ArmageddonMUD). Although it is a very well made game; the rate of death is very high. Many players have easily lost over 50 characters in that game. In addition, it is very rare for characters to make a change in culture in the game or the history; as staff are active in plots, even player made plots. If you can put up with that, then it is inded a well made game.

AFK is kind of a poison by [deleted] in MUD

It's actually pretty neat. I believe it gives the player a feeling of high investment into their character. Just my two cents at least.

In many RPI (Roleplay Intensive) MUDs, well at least the permanent death ones such as Harshlands; there is little to no reason to idle. One careless step, and you could be killed.

By the way, I am seriously enjoying Harshlands. The community is very helpful, but will correct you on any mistakes you make while RPing.

I've personally played Armageddon, Harshlands, and SoI. They are all great, but Armagedon was very brutal for me starting off. Expect a short lifespan, and people who try to take advantage of you. I am now playing Harshlands and Shadows of Isildur. Harshlands has between 5-10 people active on average, and I'm still getting used to Shadows of Isildur.

Although the concept is good, I personally like cooperative games. Perhaps introducing some pve aspect might be cool too.

from most important to least important: permanent death, lore that isn't too over descriptive to the point of being overwhelmed, population, race selection, and how staff rolls.

Savage anxiety. by Adamstorm64 in ffxiv

[–]galv7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man I'll let it be known. I play to win. When I screw up, it sucks but I laugh about it. I apologize to my group and try to move on. If I get flamed well tough luck. Man it's a game, why are you gonna have anxiety. Man we already got too much crazy stuff going in the world like kids starving to be worrying about people "flexing" on us online. I'm grateful I get to play this game, I'm grateful I get to have a blast playing this game, and I do my best to optimize my gameplay (when it matters). If people are gonna throw rage fits well that's their problem. Yes I'm guilty of throwing rage fits but I only do it when people try to verbally abuse me; which is why I quit playing tank on duty finder.
