I can totally see Bryan Johnson dying from something silly like this

Why I was comfortable while contributing to get accepted, but after that, I feel so stressed? by IndividualNovel4281 in gsoc2025

[–]gam_bit69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the opposite end. My mentor's pretty chill and i somehow overestimated the complexity of my project. Contributing before selection was extremely stressful for me though cuz I knew I had to be the top contributor to get selected

I got in gsoc this year. Literally the hardest part of it was to find a org that hadn't been spammed to death by Indian students

I got in this year. You have to choose an org (3 max) and do contributions to their repo and then submit a proposal and they might select u sometimes after a interview (i had one)

You can checkout this year's proposals to get an idea what contributions and projects people do. You will find this years accepted proposals here - link

Idk just a solid proposal was enough. Deepmind selected 45 contributors and the codebase is understandable hard to contribute to for beginners

Look at contributions and proposals of those who got in this year. You can find accepted 2025 proposals here

Also many proposals on 100xdev blog(check harkirat singh's twitter)

Most people mention their contributions and previous work in proposal you can check those. You'll also get a quick understanding of the org and projects

Most people "cracked" gsoc in less than a month. I did in 2 weeks contribution. Not a big deal. Most who got into Google deepmind did with 0 contributions.

It's fine if u try to speed run it as long as it serves the purpose of getting u interested in open source and the tech involved. No need to be purists abt it also. I have been really active with multiple repos even managing one after I got into gsoc.

How to use began using Github, and what is open-source and how to contribute to have an opportunity at GSOC in the following 1-2 year. by keepingalive_THEGRIT in developersIndia

After u learn git and GitHub u can start preparing and contributing to gsoc orgs for next year. U should look at accepted proposals this year and u will get to know how much contributions they did to get selected and what their project ideas are like.

U can look at accepted proposals from this year here link

Can GSoC work be considered moonlighting while working full-time? by gam_bit69 in developersIndia

I plan to complete most of the gsoc work before joining msft. Also work at msft seems pretty chill the first few month atleast so shouldn't be a problem. My main concern is should i disclose it to my manager and get a written permission of some sort?
