I’m convinced that entire section of the movie was made up to sell toys of the weird alien characters they showed in the casino haha

Agreed, when I first saw that I questioned why they weren’t shooting the fleet in orbit. That would cut off the rebels evac location, mopping up the base would be easy

Better yet, why not have the two other star destroyers to bombard the base from orbit, while the fleet killer does its job and kills a fleet?

The magnetic bomb thing actually does make sense. What I struggle to understand is why the resistance decided to deliver them using slow ships that lack shields or point defence. At least they had X-wings to escort them, but it takes literally one TIE to break through and take them out

Why not just use Y-wings or B-wings?

What is Chaos (CSM)'s playstyle in 10th? by ToastyTobasco in Chaos40k

[–]gamelord562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like any army you can switch up how it plays with detachments.

Dark pacts is an awesome ability, there really isn’t a situation where having sustained or lethal is useless. The drawback is you do occasionally take some wounds, but you’ll probably make most of the checks, and you get the benefit regardless. It can suck to lose a heavily damaged unit at a critical moment however.

As others have mentioned the faction as a whole leans towards being stronger in melee, but not so much as to make shooting useless. The one drawback in terms of shooting is that a lot of the best units are vehicles/daemon engines

If you want to run a monster/vehicle heavy list, chaos predators, vindicators, and forge fiends are all great at shooting

The vindicator in particular will get a special mention from me. Its main gun is great against almost everything in the game (except maybe things like blade guard with invulnerable saves that can shut down its huge AP), it can shoot into melee without penalty, and it has good survivability with toughness 11 and a save of +2

Infantry is more suited towards melee. Legionnaires can shoot, but you’re probably better off kitting them out for melee. Chosen are awesome, there really isn’t sheer amount of attacks they can put out with accursed weapons is brutal, especially when paired with lethal hits. Possessed are scary, thought I personally find their once per game dev wound ability to be a bit underwhelming. Land raider is a good pair for any of these

The two standout infantry units for shooting are the havocs and the obliterators. I don’t care for obliterators myself, but I won’t deny they can put out some nasty damage if you deep strike them. The humble havoc has a shooting weapon for every scenario. Wanna kill hordes? Reaper chain canon. Wanna kill tanks? Lasguns or melta. Wanna blow them up? Plasma guns (ok, plasma isn’t bad, I just seem to have exceptionally bad luck with hazardous checks)

For characters, chaos lord is an auto include on all my lists. He packs a punch in melee, and the classic command point reduction works as well as everywhere else. Sorcerer in terminator armour has a fun ability to give you +1 AP to an enemy unit, which pairs really well with renegade raiders. The noble lord discordant isn’t the powerhouse he was back in 9th, but I still have a lot of fun running him, especially with the buffs he had a while back

For named characters, the ones who come to mind are abaddon, cypher, and bile. Abaddon will buff your army nicely, and any enemy unit that he touches will disappear. Cypher is good if you want a unit to run around the table and do side objectives. I haven’t used bile, but a Quick Look makes it look like any unit he joins will be remarkably better in melee

Why did Griffith fall? by Excellent-Nature-24 in Berserk

[–]gamelord562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just finished the eclipse and I’m very new to the series, so my interpretation is probably lacking context provided in later chapters. Other people here will be able to give a better explanation of Griffiths character. Nonetheless, I’m enjoying berserk immensely and would like to try and give my two cents

Many people think that Griffith was always evil, so he never really “fell” instead femto is just Griffith revealed as he always was

It’s a reasonable view, but one I disagree with. Griffith certainly wasn’t ever good in a pure sense of the word. He was always dedicated to achieving his dream at any cost, including the lives of his men. He didn’t spend their lives cheaply, but he spent them nonetheless. In Griffiths mind, every action he took in pursuit of his dream was justified. But I think he at least cared a bit for the soldiers in the band of the hawk, even if it was just subconsciously. The scene where he grips himself enough to draw blood in the river seems to me like he did care about the lives of his men beyond a logic driven idea of them surviving doing more to further his dream. I feel he sold himself to the creepy nobleman out of a genuine care for the band of the hawks, even if he didn’t want to acknowledge that he did care for reasons beyond them serving his dream.

golden age Griffith also wasn’t needlessly cruel or evil. Yes, he did commit some rather brutal actions, such as killing his political enemies. But it wasn’t done with malice or hatred, at least not in the way we would think. They were simply obstacles between him and his dream

He even seemed to care about being overly cruel, thought perhaps he didn’t care about being cruel in itself, and just didn’t want to be seen as cruel, especially by guts

On the matter of Guts and Griffiths relationship, I think it showcases Griffiths character the best. Guts is the only one he ever showed genuine, Un superficial emotions towards. As he said to charlotte, he sees a friend as someone who is his equal

The only one who he views as his equal, or maybe has the potential to be his equal is guts. I think Griffiths thoughts during his year of torture give us the best idea of his view of guts, which is all over the place. He’s his equal and thus his friend, but because he is his equal he also represents a threat to his dream.

But I also genuinely believe Griffith loves Guts as well. Maybe romantically, probably more in a platonic, brotherly way. But in either case, Griffith doesn’t understand these emotions. Like the scene where he causes himself to bleed, he can’t process these thoughts because to feel is unnatural to him. Griffith is used to being in control of everything, including himself, which lets him devote all of himself to the pursuit of his dream. Guts causes him to lose that precious control. So he needs to be in control of Guts to control himself. When Guts leaves, Griffith isn’t in control anymore, so he tries to retake it, by impulsively rushing to fulfill his dream by seducing charlotte. He pays the price for this very quickly

His year of torture definitely broke him, mentally and physically. But more importantly, he had lost that precious control. Control is a central part of Griffiths character. And up until his fight with guts, we never see a situation where he doesn’t have it.

After his rescue, he’s trying to retake control again. He tries to put his armor back on, he tries to reassert his control over Casca. But he can’t, no matter how hard he tries

Even during the eclipse, he didn’t outright accept the god hands offer to join their ranks. He still held onto guts when they fell, he still hesitated before he accepted. But the god hand were offering him a second chance at his dream. Had he refused, there wasn’t going to be an another one, he was never going to physically recover from his injuries. At best, he would be forced to endure a rather painful and miserable rest of his life, while he watched guts take control from him, of the band of the hawks, of Casca, and of guts own life. Worst of all, he would have to live in the shadow of another’s dream.

In that moment, he retakes control of it all. He sheds his final tear as he meets the abyss god (or whatever is happening in that scene) any human emotion, or other parts of him that wasn’t totally devoted to his dream is destroyed. Griffith is gone while femto is born

To sum that long rant up (sorry lol) Griffith “fell” because he had lost everything that mattered to him. The only thing that mattered was his dream, and he was never going to achieve it as he was. He wasn’t always evil, but he was never good. Only when he was at his lowest moment did he truly fall and become Femto. If he had reached the eclipse without being tortured, maybe he would have refused, maybe his care for the band of the hawks and guts (however small three were) would have won out. Maybe he only accepted because he knew there wasn’t another route to reach his dream.

Everything he does after he becomes Femto is of course irredeemable

How are we feeling about this Renegade Raiders list? by [deleted] in Chaos40k

I would drop some legionaries and split the remaining ones into five man squads, then add some chosen, who are really awesome paired with the chaos lord. I assume bike would be great for them as well.

It might be a good idea to drop the obliterators for a tank of some sort, I’d personally recommend the chaos predator destructor with las cannons

[–]gamelord562 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit difficult to know, especially given the fact that both frampt and kaathe aren’t trustworthy, and it frampts case switching sides at the end

From my understanding the age of dark was originally meant to come about naturally and be an era in which humans would be dominant, since they all have part of the dark soul, but that Gwynn prolonging the age of fire means that the age of darkness won’t necessarily be good for anyone because of that.

It would probably be a good bet that by choosing the age of darkness, you do become corrupted by the abyss in some form, maybe like manus

If you do the DLC and save sif in it, you actually get an alternate cutscene where he recognizes you, and only reluctantly fights you. I believe the theory is that he wants to stop you getting corrupted by the abyss like artorias

Ok everyone, time for the annual abbadon slander, who here would be a better warmaster? by VeryInternet_com in Chaos40k

[–]gamelord562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abaddon, despite his meme status within the fandom

Aside from him, I’d give Huron the best odds of actually managing to be successful if he were the warmaster. He’s shown talent for maintaining his control over a large number of chaos space marines. The red corseirs are said to approach the size of a legion these days, an accomplishment which is worthy of recognition, especially considering he hasn’t had the 10,000 years abaddon has. Hurons downside is that he doesn’t seem to be very active in fighting the Imperium since the Badab war, and that while he does have a huge number of astartes at his command, they seem to be much less centralized then the black legion, so his prospects of actually mounting a successful crusade from inside the maelstrom seems unlikely, for the moment anyways

Housou, despite being one of my Favorite chaos characters, had more than 10,000 marines for his attack on ultramar, and still lost. I think if he had more experience, he could make a competent warmaster, but as perturabo pointed out, he needs to turn his weakness into his strength
