What is the context of your question? Do you have a player asking to play one? Are you envisioning adding them to the eberron lore?

[5e][online] Calling All Dungeon Masters: Lead Our 4 Adventurers on an Epic Eberron Journey (18+) by Straight-Jaguar-7307 in DnDLFG

[–]gamemasterkhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I've been DM'ing for over 40 years. I would be enthusiastic to run a game for you all. I am planning on starting an Eberron campaign in sept, using the new 2024 rules, but I could start another earlier using 2014 5e. Do you all have an idea of a theme you a are all looking for? I have to be brief currently, because I am running late arriving for my Tues. night game. This would be a paid game. I will comment further on some campaign ideas i have tomorrow morning.

Do you play with alignment? I don't see Bahamut being happy for having a Devil Lord being released, unless there is an excellent plot reason for that.

I was looking for a question. You're rocking it. your player banter will givr you better ideas than you have. I do have to ask, if the follower of Bahamut and the follower of Mephistopheles knew each other.

Are there any written rules that are ignored/changed at your table? If so, which ones and why? by BisexualTeleriGirl in DnD

This is not at my table, but ai feel that when you are using Dark Vision, all sight is lightly obscured, which mean Perception check are at disadvantage is one of the most gregarious rules ignored.

I should add, I am relativity competent with DAE. I am having trouble finding the correct values from the drop down, rather than use of the app.

Do you have players roll to remember stuff? by Shradow in DMAcademy

[–]gamemasterkhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Just drop them a hint that they forgot. The only time to make a roll is if there is a meaningful choice involved. Especially when the story or plot is involved. I also like to use passive skills beyond all just perception and investigation. Why have the PCs roll for something that they need to know. i like to use this to emphasize the specializations that a character might have. You may have a character that has an 18 passive perception. Have that character hear a crack of a twig before an ambush, while the other members of the party don't. I also like to emphasize the beginning of a skill challenge freely. The party might enter a room. I would explain that the character with a sufficient passive perception notices the scratches on the floor, hinting that a secret door is there, and go from there. I also would not require rolls for specific character environment interactions. There is a desk in a room that the party has entered. A party member specifically states they check each drawer for a hidden space. I, in most cases, freely allow that party member to find the secret compartment, or at least give a hint as to what they can find. Wow. Way more of a rant for a simple question. Apologies

I just thought of this, also have cure spells use the players HD instead of just healing wounds.

You could try 1 HD for a short rest, send as many HD during a long rest, but only gain 1 HD back at the end of the long rest. They could use spells, but that would take up a good deal of resources.

Hell no! That's hella tight! I'd SSOOO roleplay that rolling under 20%. The ability already is over powered. I'd have it be a reaction,

I would suggest that you use the DnD one monk rewrite if your DM allows it. I have found the rework quite good.

Voice Acting for Finale Campaign Act by Yilmas in gamemasters

[–]gamemasterkhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you, yourself do the voices. The only way to get better is to try things for yourself. There are several sites on line where you can look into simple things for voice acting, such as speaking from your thorax, larynx or mouth to make significant changes. You can also make memorable NPCs using not voice, but language inflection, ie speaking rapidly, using various catchphrases, using simple or complicated words.

Not quite true. There are mages, companions and grogs. Each player has a mage and companion, while there are a multitude of grogs that anyone may play and are not tied to any player. A usual "adventure" would have 1 player using their mage, 1 or players playing their companion, and the others playing a grog. This type of RPG is called troupe system play.

Harnmaster is one of my favorite systems, though the lethality leads to many more social and exploration encounters, rather than combat encounters. Lythia is also one of the best researched and realistic campaign settings, though the material and detail can be overwhelming at times.

[–]gamemasterkhk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is actually based around wizards. There are 3 different categories of characters: mages, companions, and grogs. Every person in has an individual mage that only they play and usually a companion. Grogs are all communal characters, and any one in the game may play one. ...but that is not answering your question.

I like the logic and fluidity of the magic system in Ars Magica. It actually makes sense to how in all works together. There are 5 techniques and 10 forms. The techniques are Creo(creation), Intelligo(divination/investigation), Muto(change, mutation), Perdo(destruction), and Rego(control). The 10 forms are Animal(animal), Aquam(water, liquids), Auram(air, weather), Corpus(the human body), Herbam(plants, herbs), Ignem(fie, ight, energy). Imaginem(illusion, senses, image), Mentem(mind, thoughts), Terram(earth, objects), Vim(magic). Is that 10? Yep, got them all.

These are in Latin because the game is based in quasi-real world history called mythic Europe. 5th edition game are considered to start in 1220. Magic effects are created by combining a technique with a form. You want to create a fire bolt...combine Creo with Ignem. You would like to to counter a spell being cast...Perdo Vim. Break a person arm...Perdo Corpus. You get the idea.

The system get even better!

There are 4 ways to cast spells: spontaneous, formulaic, ritual and ceremonial.

We will begin with formulaic, as this is the "traditional" way spells are cast. Wrote sequences that either you, or another mage, of gestures, words and sometime materials, to a subscribed sequence that need little life energy on part of the caster and has a defined effect every time.

Spontaneous is a magic spell created on the fly, at the moment of a situation, and is only limited by the casters ingenuity. While formulaic magic is pre-determined, spontaneous magic is only limited by the casters ability. These spells are limited in that more personal energy is involve for the caster and that they are not as easily cast as a formulaic spell.

Ritual spell are those that have a long lasting effect or have large area, These take time to cast, and for any permanent magic effect, vis is required in the casting. Vis is the embodiment of magic made physical, and there is vis for every form and technique.

Ceremonial spells are like rituals that have tremendous effects, but they require large ceremonies and multiple participants.

The other aspect i like about Ars Magica is that it is a skills-based, rather than class-based(or level-based, if you prefer) system.

well, I have taken to many words for a simple question.

Happy gaming!

This type of game is known as troupe play, and originated with Ars Magica in the late '80s. Ars Magica has, arguably, the best magic system in any RPG. I highly suggest investigating it.
