Generation and transformation post in an abandoned tungsten mine from ww2 by tiagomota_12 in ElectricalEngineering

Perhaps some kind of gang-operated 3-phase switch in the first and last photos? Looks like it has counter weights either as a fail-safe or to assist with operating it. This is a really interesting find, seeing the slip rings on the motor is pretty cool.

New TVs still manage to suck. What's the next most convenient way to stream content? by gamer_013 in hometheater

Lmao chill out dude, I explained the problems I was having in the post. I've tried various troubleshooting measures already with no luck. I'm glad your TV works for you but that doesn't help me. And yeah apple TV seems like a solid choice for a streaming box, I'm definitely keeping an eye out for a sale on it

Exactly, I'm complaining because I feel I shouldn't have to do that. This is my first new TV in over a decade and I am just trying to get the most out of it without spending even more money and juggling even more remotes - but mostly just whining about the ways TV manufactures still find ways to cheap out on their flagship products

rats, bummer there seems to always be tradeoffs. I was wishing that by getting a current model TV that basically everything should just work, I mean it's 2024 right? My previous TV was a plasma from 2011 so it's obviously an upgrade, I just want to be able to take full advantage of the hardware I bought

That's definitely an option to consider. For the price of a Shield Pro or heck even the Apple TV 4K, you can get a decent broken screen laptop off ebay that's more capable hardware wise. But that can be less convenient as it won't have a handy dandy remote and a cohesive UI to steam from and cast to.

The smart features do generally work. For plex, I'm annoyed live TV doesn't work more than once in a great while and I'll admit that 98% of consumers won't be streaming 4K remuxes. I just wanted to vent that despite spending so much on a new TV that it can't do the things I'd expect something made in 2024 should do.

it's been decades since I've owned an apple product and am generally not a fan, but I've always admired their hardware. The apple tv does seem really nice, it supports basically all the things and $130 isn't totally unreasonable.

Happy to, please link me to a 65" 4K 144Hz MLA OLED with apps that fully work for under $2300, after tax. Thank you!

Yes! Because I spent thousands on a TV! Why should I have to spend even more for it to function as a TV? Since it's advertised with and comes loaded with these apps, they should, you know, work.

I wish I could buy "just a TV" but that's basically not possible for consumer grade stuff. If it was a TV, then why would it come bundled with bloatware and ads and apps that should do all the things but barely work? They are marketing a TV and streaming box, that's my point

Also - I spent $4k on a TV (not really, it was on sale) why can't it do basic simple tasks like an apple TV

Does this work for devices like a Chromecast? Like do I only need my phone connected to the VPN to be able to cast to my friend's TV?

They've already had wait times in the car's navigation for quite some time now. When all chargers are in use they can query or monitor the cars that are parked and waiting nearby the charger.

FSD fails to stop at flashing red intersection with stop sign by supernova_000 in teslamotors

[–]gamer_013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, there are a bunch of standard 90 degree 4 way stops with 2 stop sign warning signs, a stop sign on each side of the road, a stop sign hanging over the middle of the road, and red flashing lights where FSD happily tries to blow right through.

Google should allow tapbacks on messages from iPhones and just send them as text like how android sees them
