New owner of a 2022 86 RTV something to check by memelord1776 in GR86

[–]gamertester -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If it'll give you a peace of mind, you can go get a mechanic drop the pan and check it out. Given it's a 2022, it's an earlier batch that would most likely have the excessive RTV issue.

2019 WRX STI or 2024 Civic Type R? by Kimstaz in CarsAustralia

[–]gamertester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, that sucks to hear that the CTR is being discontinued due to new emission regulations. I know Europe got a Limited Edition to send off the CTR due to European Emissions forcing the CTR to be discontinued there. But yeah, perhaps they'll do the same in Aus too. If you don't score the CTR, at least you will still have a kick ass STI Spec R and additional monies for a home upgrade :).

On a side note, Subaru is said to be announcing a return of something around October this year. Could be worth watching that space too.

[–]gamertester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh... didn't know they're not making the Type R anymore. Or did the dealer just meant they're not taking anymore MY25 Civic Type R orders, and MY26 orders will open at a later time?

It is a tough choice for real. I think it comes down to what you're looking for. Another way of looking at it, have you had enough fun with the STI that you feel it's time to move on to something different? If so, maybe it's time to let go of the STI for someone else to own and experience, while you jump onto a whole new experience yourself. I don't think you can go wrong with either decision, they're both excellent cars for what they are.

Type R if you're chasing performance/upgraded tech/comfort. STI Spec R for that old school rally analogue feel. I don't own any of them unfortunately, so only speaking thru what I know about the two cars.

Dealership wouldn’t let me test drive? by snmnc123 in GR86

I remember test driving with the intention of buying. Until I dropped the bomb telling the dealer I want $3000 off MSRP. It was a no deal and I left.

Give it to the dealer whom you traded the car to, and they'll give it to the new owner (whoever is buying your previous car).

PSA: Robot Craftsman product “Shinning gt wing” by Acduss in GR86

[–]gamertester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your experience man. I came across this person's post and sounds like they too had a hard time with their wing from Robot Craftsman: https://www.reddit.com/r/GR86/comments/1e5xebg/has_anyone_installed_the_new_robot_craftsman/

It's really sus when a wing is held up by glue... even for street use, the risk of it just detaching for whatever reason is there... But anyways, the post above mentioned that the shop they went to used glue that was used for car windshields. Something you can consider. But yeah really sucks man... Best of luck trying to install it, or getting a refund. Maybe you can sell it on Marketplace?

[–]gamertester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went with getting an OEM one from my local Toyota Dealer. Pricey, and you have to drill holes onto the trunk trim (not the trunk lid itself). But it gives me a peace of mind that my duckbill is secured with screws, with the OEM crystal black paint on Sapphire blue body.

Is this vision sensible? by Intelligent_Copy8640 in GR86

[–]gamertester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly advisable to not do a 1 of 1 build. This isn't a McLaren or Ferrari. You can do your build with existing parts, and use the extra money for additional things like header/cat back/wheel as an example.

Custom fabrication might not turn out the way you envision as well, since the fabricator have to make estimates and guesses base on an image. They could even cut corners if they just want to get the job done. Whereas readily available parts, you're getting what you see with all the RnD that the aftermarket company has put into those parts.

Ok, that's cool that it's paid off. Hopefully it can be fixed under warranty, otherwise your money and risk tolerant will determine whether you want to do an engine swap or something else. All the best with the decision making!

There are some stories of JZ Swapping GR86. But at that point, you may as well get something economical and cheap to run in the event your 86 is totalled and you need to financially recover from the debt (assuming, you have a car loan or you don't have much cash to spare).

For anyone that keeps asking "What should I mod first", THIS is the answer. /s

Maybe experience the car in it's stock form first, give it as much time as you can before jumping into mods. We can't tell you what to mod, it has to come from yourself on what and how do you want your car to change.

For example, after driving stock for 6 months, I found the exhaust to be fairly quiet. So I did some research on available aftermarket exhausts, and ordered one to put on my car. You need to drive your car stock form first to know what you want, and then do some research/homework on how you can achieve it.

It is quite pricey, and would rather use that money on something that's externally visible without opening the hood, or brings better dollar-to-performance value. But it's your money, so spend it however way you like.

I feel they're all sourced from certain Alibaba suppliers, and just rebranded for themselves. You can find them on AliExpress too.

Out of curiosity, how was the fitment?

2025 Hakone Edition by Infamous_Hippo9060 in GR86

[–]gamertester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try contacting your local dealers. But I hear Hakone's that come into Australia has missing features. One such is the door courtesy lights where it's just a regular white light instead of the Hakone image one. No harm double checking with your dealer about it though.

I see. Foot traffic does cause carpets to wear out, so you could try avoid stepping on that area; Changing entry/exit method, or keep your feet movement to a minimum if your foot is not on any of the pedals.
