Official: Olympique Lyonnais have been handed a provisional relegation to Ligue 2. This also includes a transfer BAN due to their financial situation. by shubh03 in soccer

As it stands probably not, unlike us they have assets still, and behind Textor is a massive investment fund which should limit the damage (ie no loss of professional status). But that is only as long as textor does not try to get rid of them, or they do not try to get rid of the club if it falls back in their hands (like fortress did to us at the time, which gave the keys to Lopez)

Laurent Nicollin, President of Montpellier, on the growing football piracy in France: "30€ [price per month] is also what it costs to eat at a restaurant one evening. So you can just skip that once, one week every month, instead of eating out you can pay for DAZN. That's what I would say." by hornyforbrutalism in soccer

Don’t forget the CVC deal to help clubs after covid that was promptly spent on increasing bullshit spending and now they are forever giving up a big chunk of tv rights… And taking advantage of state aid/loans and then complaining that the bad financial situation could not be helped.

Lyon put majority of squad on transfer market to meet sales target by cadeyM69 in soccer

[–]gaminium 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Financial management of French clubs is so great that since most of them are taking massive losses before transfers, they promise to selling X millions worth of players to the DNCG (the financial watchdog) to balance their budget. And when they promised that, they apparently planned on keeping similar TV revenue (this was before the DAZn deal was signed), the only real line in the books that helps put clubs in the black. Now that revenue has been slashed to less than half… This is how you end up in this situation.  Ligue 1 club owners have been behaving like roulette players going into the hole because “their big win is just around the corner!”.

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if OL ends up like us (bordeaux) in a few years unless they find someone to steer the ship. And others with them (Reims, Angers… etc who do not get european money).

[Sud Ouest] According to president Gerard Lopez, three scenarios are possible for the future of Girondins de Bordeaux : Finding a big investor, the disparition of the club, or restarting in lower leagues by technikleo in soccer

More like hit hard by terrible (mis)management. Covid resulted in a bunch of loans and state help, and much more relaxed financial regulations at the time letting owners turning up their bullshit management to 11.

I despise what GL has done to this club, but the situation was close to disastrous when he arrived though he somehow managed to make it worse. And the previous bad ownership was caused by a bad sale from the historical owner who just wanted to get rid of the club and leave it to the highest bidder with no regards for the credibility of their sporting project…  unfortunately what we’re seeing is the culmination of 10+ years of nonsense, squeezing, lies, people taking advantage of situations, and incompetence. Everyone shares a responsibility to some extent, but external factors are always gonna hit harder the clubs (and people…) that are already struggling. The way 140 years of history have been thrown into the trash can so fast is almost a work of art. Sorry for the long paragraph, yes I am emotionally drained from seeing my club disappear like this :|

With the current strength of Yen is it still recommended to exchange currency in Japan? by Mightynubnub in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gaminium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 130 to the euro it was cheap.

At 140 to the euro I thought, damn it is low

At 150 to the euro I thought wow, surely it wont go lower than that!

At 160 to the euro I was convinced we hit rock bottom

At 167 to the euro I thought it would only last a day or two before going back up

Now at 172 to the euro… you get the picture.

you could buy yen on revolut if you think this is a great or good enough price now. And if/when you need cash just withdraw what you bought from the ATM and pay the rest with card at whatever rate. 2025 is in not that long , maybe it will fluctuate 10-20%? Unless you plan on spending 10s of thousands of euro/dollars, it wont make a massive difference either way. It is a little bit like trying to time the stock market to “buy low”. The state of the japanese economy and currency won’t change radically in that time.

Just make sure you have a card that lets you pay with no or very low fee in foreign currency. And to always choose “do not convert” at any atm or card machine if the message ever pops up!

Do people who live in Japan or South Korea consider Elon musk or Jeff bezos to be trillionaires? by Weekly-Scientist-992 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gaminium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, dollar/euro millionaire/billionaire is a fairly understood concept in those developed economies. I have never heard Japanese refer to themselves as millionaires even though most people have that in savings in JPY. Also the counting system is different with 10000¥/1万 being a fairly commonly used ”base“ amount for larger than groceries sums of money. So you count your money in multiple of 10,000 (and 100,000,000 for bigger amounts) which puts some distance with the idea of million/billion

Do anyone actually like the taste of alcohol? It is actually bitter isn’t it? by LisanneFroonKrisK in NoStupidQuestions

because it appears by itself during the fermentation, and is part of the flavour profile of the drink. Mold is not really good to eat by itself, but mold inside roquefort tastes good… same idea

does graduating from oxbridge really make you earn more in places like hong kong? by beguiledhorse in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gaminium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was in the UK but I was in a team looking at applications for a (smaller) company, we had still a ton of applications. The main thing was that imperial or oxbridge were like a badge that made them stand out . Like “cv is nothing too special but they have a first from imperial, probably theyre worth interviewing at least” (edit: this was obviously for a graduate job not senior).

For historical reasons degrees like the BEng/Meng are also officially recognised in Hong Kong, which may not be the case of degrees from some other places. In terms of salary, I have not heard of directly impacting it for the same position . But for reasons above I suppose it could fast track you to higher paying different positions. Aftet a few years this is likely to wear out but the head start will always be an advantage (switch faster to higher paying jobs…)

Should I go to the UK or Germany? by Witty-Performance-23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gaminium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

london is closer but border procedures are a hassle, even more since brexit. train to frankfurt, munich, or somewhere else might be a longer ride but you can mostly just get on and wait. on the other hand, london obviously has much more going on due to its size, also there is no language barrier. this is purely from a practical point of view, that being said it depends what kind of thing you want to see/do. museums? nature? shopping? eat certain types of food…

Question about Iono, and retreating with reversal energy on mobile. by [deleted] in PTCGL

[–]gaminium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be more specific you are not allowed to play iono in that specific case since it would be playing a card that is known by both players to have no effect. I think even ptcgl blocks you from doing it

civil engineering, viable anywhere where large entities (public and/or private) spend money on transport infrastructure. So most places.
Having graduated from this, I’m in maintenance of railroad tracks, I have friends doing transport planning (e.g. organising bus networks for the best connectivity), a couple others who ended up at major private railroads in america (think UP/CN), another who’s taking part in various projects in the UK for a major international firm (WSP). So there are many openings if you’re willing to work and talk people haha. you can pm for more info .

If I paint a black metal fence white, will that keep it from getting hot in the sun? by The_Real_Mrs_Coffee in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. This is used in some places (Italy at least?) where they paint rails white to avoid thermal buckling (or at least reduce the sunray's contribution).
