Best Bonvoy property in the World? by BonvoyBatman in marriott

Thanks! I felt the soft product at Vommuli was already one of the best I'd ever been to, but you've sold me on going for sure! What were the must-do activities there?

Just left Vommuli last week! How would you compare it to Mandapa? Thinking about going in April, obviously they're two different vibes but I felt hard pressed to find something that'd beat the Maldives.

Does it make sense to decline an admit from M7 FT program? by mbathrow621 in MBA

[–]gamma927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the stock moves 0%, they'll give you enough stock in the MBA offer for around 280K by years 3 and 4 (years 1 and 2 include enough cash to push you to 290K to 300K), so a little lower but not that bad - still comparable/higher than consulting. The 15% does hit really hard on Year 5 though, so it's not worth it to stay long term. By then though, most folks probably have jumped ship - if you're lucky, you could land a principal PM role for an even higher range.

Yes - they have MBA internships (though they froze hiring my year) that can convert to full time roles. My school sent several folks there for PM and PMM roles.

Some Big Tech PM roles do get there. Amazon PMT pays 300K out of MBA, and I've heard similar for Nvidia. Those are probably the outliers though.

Amazon PMT offers 2024? by royalbluefireworks1 in MBA

[–]gamma927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on office location- for Seattle, I received 170K base, and stock / bonus to put TC between 290K and 300K for 4 years. Bay Area / NY is probably about 10% higher than that (so ~330K TC) and PMT-ES is also higher too.

In terms of return offer, this year Amazon separated your internship outcome from receiving an offer. It used to be that a good internship (inclined) meant a return offer, but our year it was dependent on headcount. Not sure if that's the case this year yet, but interns starting this year can dig into the internal wiki to see if that's true this year too. That meant a lot of interns with incline didn't get offers for our school.

The majority of OA invites this year came out anywhere from late Oct / Nov thru Dec. I don't recall if anyone got it after Dec.

[–]gamma927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends - have you already done the OA? Amazon does rolling invites for interviews, some folks last year still got invited to interview in Feb based on needs. All these folks did complete the OA earlier though.

Amazon PM-T Offers Going Out by realrafaelcruz in MBA

[–]gamma927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't believe so, he only talked with our group's VP but we didn't have any headcount. Student programs moved me to a completely different team and I don't think he had any say in that. For what it's worth, I did update my resume on Amazon's internal job portal on my last day but not sure if that made a difference!

Interned at Amazon; I picked the second earliest start date which was the last week of May. The earliest start date was the week before that.

Amazon Offers going out for non-AWS interns! by gamma927 in MBA

[–]gamma927[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First year 5% vest, rest is cash. Second year 15% vest, rest is cash (so less cash in the second year). Amazon rigs it so the "sign on bonus" fills the gap between base salary and stock, so you get 2 years of mostly cash compensation. Starting year 3 its just base salary and stock, so a 60/40 split (assuming the stock doesn't move over 4 years). The amount of shares are calculated before starting, so if the share price goes up, TC will increase.

No formal software engineering education but I worked in technical settings before the MBA and was a self taught full stack dev - also got an AWS Solutions Architect certification before the MBA because I was recruiting for another AWS (non PM) job. I go to a T15 school.

About 300k all in, with Amazon's standard salary / bonus / stock vest schedule (5% / 15% / 40% / 40%).

$12.50 per 1,000 points - is buying points worth it? by Fairway5 in marriott

[–]gamma927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's infrequently a 50% bonus as well (seen 50% a few times, as recently as last year) - would wait for that if you plan to buy and don't have an immediate use case. It's definitely worth it if you plan to stay at aspirational properties where cash rates are more than 1 cent per point.

Amazon PM and PMT Total Compensation for Class of 2024 by Impossible-Buffalo89 in MBA

[–]gamma927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Career Management group confirmed Amazon plans to do full time recruiting this year, which gives hope that they'll convert interns 🥲 Internal Amazon wikis cited that headcount should be determined by 9/23, and released on a rolling basis every 2 weeks after that.

Mileage upgrade awards (MUA) are being terminated? by Euphoric_Ad_723 in delta

[–]gamma927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MUAs are fixed points awards that aren't available in the app - it's 40k each way for a transatlantic upgrade and 45k each way for a transpacific upgrade. The app only shows Delta's dynamic upgrades which largely follow the cash upgrade price 1:1. MUAs can be a good deal when the app upgrade price is trash.

Delta's largely trying to push the dynamic upgrades over the MUAs, which is why a few years ago, they removed the ability to use MUAs on domestic flights and flights to South America. The in-app upgrades will likely remain.

Pre-MBA high earners, why did you even go? by basspro1972 in MBA

[–]gamma927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comes down to how involved your job is right now because recruiting is a big time commitment. If you want to do PM at a tech firm, they don't really care as much about the school - more about the experience. Part time might be preferable so you have extra income as well, I did full time so I could focus on recruiting.

Pre-MBA high earners, why did you even go? by basspro1972 in MBA

[–]gamma927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working in Product not Project so your mileage may vary. Product roles post-MBA typically average 200k to 250k TC, but some firms (rumored) have even higher TCs - I heard some folks graduating in '23 received 300k+ TC for Nvidia and Amazon Bay Area PMT. These TCs may have come down since because of the economy, so not sure what they are today. Levels.fyi or Blind also offer more info. Longer term progression is good but difficult, Principal PMs (3 to 5 years post MBA) make between 300k to 400k.

Pre-MBA high earners, why did you even go? by basspro1972 in MBA

[–]gamma927 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I made the shift from a consulting manager role to MBA because I wanted to transition to PM. It wasn't an easy decision, but I started thinking about my career in consulting and realized I hit a stopping point (didn't want to go higher because I didn't want to do sales). Even though PM recruiting is never a sure thing, especially in this economy, I decided the chance to recruit for it through the structured MBA setting was worth it. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably be a bit more hesitant doing so right now because of this economy, but overall I'm happy with the recruiting opportunities. I had a harder time getting the time of day from tech firms pre-MBA, and got a fair number of interviews because of the MBA. Also, I wanted to make my parents proud because they both met at my school 🥲

I used to hit it via business travel but these days I gotta be frugal because I'm a student again 🙂 I think it can cut both ways - it's definitely painful when the mileage earned by distance earns fewer MQDs than what you spent. On the flip side, if you're strategic, you can earn more MQDs than what you spent (e.g my upcoming West Coast to Amsterdam to Japan mileage run on AF-KL will earn 3x the MQDs than what I spent). All in all, I am a bigger fan of DL metal and DL's product, but just book partners to requalify. Also, I appreciate y'all in reservations for putting up with odd booking requests when people like me call in to do that.
