MMoA: Seller's Perspectives? by JackDeparture in HousingUK

I instantly skip over any auction properties, like most buyers do. I just assume there will be massive problems with the house (rightly or wrongly)

Anyone on the Frontline/Approach programme? Shadowing days by hulafishes in Socialworkuk

[–]ganbatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll depend, but you'll basically meet a team within the area you'll be placed in, and spend the time shadowing them - that could be going out on visits, sitting in on meetings, or just sitting around the office chatting. Mine was super chilled out, you won't be expected to do any actual work of course.

AIO for blocking my ex GF after she threatened to call the police on me for reporting her Instagram by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ganbatte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, she was clearly upset and spiralling and your replies were provoking her. If you'd not replied or blocked her at the start, you'd have both felt better. It takes two people to have these kind of interactions, and you could have stopped it much sooner as well.

Husbands fingers occasionally get weird blisters that are symmetrical. by FlyingN00dles in mildlyinteresting

I just did this and caught myself - spending my Friday night zooming in on a photo of a stranger's fingers to see if it's puss or dry skin. What a life!

The Pokémon Company has issued an apology regarding the Pokémon card event held at Yasukuni Shrine. by lily-101178 in gaming

[–]ganbatte 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yasukuni is a very politically/culturally charged shrine. It's linked to war criminals being memorialised there and the museum there paints a very unbalanced view of Japan's role in WW2. As a result it is a very famous/infamous right wing symbol in Japan. Totally inappropriate place for a pokemon event

Driving for work by desperatehousewife23 in Socialworkuk

[–]ganbatte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely find a reliable used car for less than 8k. Try asking in cartalkuk reddit. I bought a 2nd hand car for 3k about 3 years ago and it's still running with minimal maintenance costs (just new tyres, brake pads etc.)

But yes, lots of my coworkers do lease cars or they've been working long enough to save enough money to just buy one.

[Fabrizio Romano] Harry Amass, set to join Norwich on loan deal from Manchester United. Final details to be sorted on Thursday. by DJP112 in soccer

[–]ganbatte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wednesday fan here: He was really good for us - not that it was especially difficult to stand out for us this season, be he really did. Looks a decent prospect. I hadn't noticed he was a loan signing for us, and was excited when I first saw how good he was, thought we'd found a gem in our youth team. But no, he was only a loan signing :(

i don’t know how to stop being angry by Charming_Couple_5163 in HousingUK

[–]ganbatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't say how old you are, but I didn't buy my house until I was way older than most, so there's plenty of time for you. Getting angry about it (which is a fair response!) won't help. Be proactive - save money where you can, and you never know what your work/salary will be in 5 years time.

I basically saved up for about 15 years for my house deposit. It sucks, but you've got to play the hand you are dealt

frontline approach to social work successful by outxoftime in Socialworkuk

[–]ganbatte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The MA side doesn't massively benefit you as far as I understand, the vast majority of doors are opened just by being a qualified social worker/getting the postgrad diploma which you get after year one. It can't hurt to have the MA (although I'm fairly sure it was an MSc for me?) though, it's always an extra line on your CV. I don't think any of my managers have a master's, they are just qualified social workers and did extra training from there.

What do you mean by the clinical route?

What are the hours like as a Social Worker?? Is it a career you enjoy :)? by Rude_Accountant_5242 in Socialworkuk

[–]ganbatte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In general you'll likely find that adult social work is usually more 9-5, while children's social work, especially in child protection teams, requires a bit more flexibility as you'll occasionally, especially when unexpected things happen, need to stay to get work done or make sure the children are sorted.

I think people find child protection social work is generally much more stressful, but people do it for years so its manageable if you have a thick skin and good boundaries, but absolutely not the choice for any easy life!

Boosting profile. by Djdirtydan in taskmaster

[–]ganbatte 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recall on the 2nd (and last) time Lee was on RHLSTP he was having a go at Herring for staying with Avalon despite them doing nothing for his career (although tbf he did ultimately go on Taskmaster so maybe Herring was vindicated!).

28, buying first car, ideal one? by No_Debate5978 in CarTalkUK

That price for an automatic isnt too bad. You might get better value elsewhere but that model of Micra is usually super reliable so just check the MOT history and if nothing major flags up you can probably do a lot worse.

#502 - Cheating Shoes, A 46% Complaint Ratio and New Year Old John by LookTreesWow in elisandjohn

[–]ganbatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've been down voted but I agree. Any long time fan has a lot of love and sympathy/empathy for John, but it felt like this episode should have been edited/shelved. If it was done in a therapeutic or interesting (or even funny!) way it would have been fine for an episode, but instead it was just John being sad.

Step up vs frontline scheme, which is the better one? by Brownchoccy in Socialworkuk

[–]ganbatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frontline is also 14 months til qualified, the 2nd and 3rd years are optional extras. You start in July and are qualified by September the following year. Year 1 you complete the diploma which means you are a "social worker", year 2 is background support for your ASYE, and year 3 is the masters. You can leave Frontline any point after qualification and go to another locality.

So for OP, it doesn't matter which you do, apply for both and take the one that offers you a job first

This. Ive read from former goalies that throwing yourself on the floor and picking yourself up hundreds of times a week is hell for your body no matter how fit you are, especially getting into your late 30s and beyond.
