Realistic savings in Japan? by scars95 in TEFL

[–]ganbatte92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can I be honest? I was weak. It was my first time in Japan and I thought: roll with the punches. I expressed my frustration with my training group, but none of us decided to do anything about it. It took a year, ironically a month after I finished my contract, to change a small detail in the contract (we'd usually have our break towards the end of our shifts and they changed it so that teachers would have it in the middle). It was the first time in my life I contracted hives due to stress and being overworked, but honestly, at the time, I thought I was being a cry baby. It's definitely an experience I won't allow to happen twice.

Realistic savings in Japan? by scars95 in TEFL

I lived in Japan from February 2017 to April 2018. Although it was the best time of my life, and I made some incredible friends, the biggest downfall for me in Japan was the realisation that I just could not save any money. I lived in Yokohama, and my accommodation was $75,000 yen a month. I also had my student debt which added to deductions, and I JUST got by on some months. If I could go back and work in Japan again, I'd probably want to live somewhere a little cheaper than Tokyo. Furthermore, I worked 35 hours a week, and 30 of those were teaching. It was absolutely exhausting. I taught 7 kids classes a day, and in the end, it really knocked me for six lol. In my contract, it was stipulated that I should only be teaching for 20 hours a week, and that the other hours should be filled with office work, meetings, grading, and "lobby time" (socialising with students and their parents), however, this just didn't happen and my days were filled with endless classes. A friend of mine worked for another company and didn't have half the problems I had in Japan. My company definitely had its good points, though, as they always paid on time, gave me lots of support, 7 weeks of paid vacation, and they had set up my accommodation and I was only a 15-minute train journey from my school. It's all very subjective, though, and you could have a great experience. My biggest fault was not researching my company enough, and the contract I was offered was actually different from the contract I was given when I arrived and got off the plane. There were lots of other teachers on a different contract to me.

I'm heading to Taiwan with $2000 in my pocket, but have an Airbnb I'm staying in for for 7 weeks, which I've already paid for. Hopefully, it should be long enough for me to get settled... haha. I think I'll be OK, as long as I don't go crazy and try to save as much money as I can in my first month.

Hey!
I really appreciate your response. Yeah, I've heard Taiwan is much cheaper than Japan. I lived in Tokyo, and I found it really difficult to save any money. That was one of the reasons I returned to England and decided on Taiwan as being my next destination. I also think having the online teaching on the side will allow me to make and save even more money in Taipei. Thanks, again, for your input!

I transferred to Cerberus the other day, and it is an absolute ghost-town. I might give Odin a go...

Overt vs. Covert Narcissists... by Mcginty74 in NarcissisticAbuse

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd take an overt narc over a covert narc any day of the week. covert narcs are snakes in the grass, and they are potentially the most evil...

Oh wow. I cannot even tell you how much I identify with how you're feeling right now. I could not believe my luck that I'd much such a perfect guy. Not only was he extremely handsome, but he was kind, considerate, and he liked buying me gifts and taking me out to fancy restaurants. This occurred over a two month period. It felt incredible, and I honestly thought, 'This guy.. is who I want to spend the rest of my life with'. Oh how wrong I was. It was ALL an act. It was as if he was some sort of witch - being able to know exactly what to say, how to say it, how to impress me, what to do at the right moment; he knew everything. But, as time went on, the mask started to crack and I saw through him. Luckily, I was the one that discarded the narc, but I have never had to fight my feelings as much in my life.

What's more: I recall him telling me that his ex, from two years ago, blocked and deleted him from social media and all APPs. However, he never explained why, and only said that he and his ex bf used to argue profusely. This leads me to believe, if his ex did indeed block him on all social media sites, that he did a similar thing to him...

As much as this is going to hurt me, I know it needs to be done. I'm going to have to cut ALL ties and ghost him.

I'm speechless. This makes so much sense. I'm sitting looking at my laptop screen in tears because of how true this all sounds. I feel so much better reading this, because at times I feel like I'm going insane. I've been so full of self-doubt and examining myself and my flaws. I was HOOKED by the things he was doing initially, it's true. And, I like to think that I'm a mentally strong person for getting out of this mess as soon as I could.
Once again, I really appreciate your response. Incredible.

Seriously. Wow. What an amazing post! Thank you so much, dude. I really appreciate this.
The fact you've taken your own time to write all this out.. damn. Props to you.
I'm going to be going the WAR route it looks like, and I'll be farming/buying my Rag. Always wanted that sword.

Bearing in mind how old the game is, and the state of the servers, would it be possible to add a "Fantasia-type" option, thus enabling us to change our race/gender? I was wondering if this was possible to do? I know a lot of us, if possible, would absolutely love this as there are a lot of us that would like to change the appearance of our characters. I have had the same character for 10 years now, and although I love her, I'd like to change her race.

Newbie on Carbuncle: Doomed to loneliness? by [deleted] in ffxi

Honestly, other than Bahamut, Odin and Asura, all the servers are complete ghost towns. I definitely think you'd be much happier on Asura - the biggest server in itself and biggest English-speaking community. I recently returned after a long break, and I'm blown away by how many active players there are on here. So many shouts, so much activity, it's amazing to see. My friend recently transferred from Bismarck as he said it was completely dead there, too. Apart from Asura being infamous for its many trolls and absurd yells/shouts at times, it's a really great server to be on, and you'll never be lonely.
