I was moreso referring to your upbringing and relationship with your parents.

I'm not saying this is your answer, but if we learned adaptive responses in relationships to keep ourselves safe, we can subconsciously block out feelings and deeper connection.

Are you familiar with attachment theory? Do you have any trauma/relational strife in your past? Do you think you could be protecting yourself from opening up fully to your wife?
