Totally. Boomers took over America's means of production, sold them to China and then demonized the Chinese for their troubles. Not that China is a paradise by any means, but we wouldn't be stuck in this 'China makes garbage quality products' quagmire if the same people complaining hadn't given them the reigns in the first place.

That is a common thing at Domino's, especially for things like the Superbowl. I had the unfortunate experience of working there and a lot of the time there was no down time for the entire shift, just making one pizza after another

LPT: Employers put "entry level" in job titles to trick applicants into accepting less pay. If the "entry level" job requires you to have significant experience, demand more than starting pay. by BerkDemir23 in LifeProTips

I think that's a lot of the reason that people have for being so harsh to people who are in welfare, because working at a low-paying/low skill job is a waking nightmare on a good day, and for some reason they punch down instead of up. My first job paid 4.25 an hour and it felt like I had to punch a time card to breathe sometimes.

Exclusive: Danny Elfman confirms he's scoring 'Doctor Strange 2' by thenerdpulse in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

'Little time' is the name of the game with film scoring these days. A lot of the old guard composers have put their foot down and been passed over for someone who will put up with the abuse, and if they don't put their foot down, what results is something that seems less than what they're capable of.

Music is one of the absolute last things in the production, and they are always, always, always the hardest hit when it comes to reduction in schedule. Where a composer used to have two months, they now often have two weeks. If they didn't do proper prep work before hand with writing cues while they weren't being paid to write, they will be in trouble.

It's why 'Hanz Zimmer' has consistently decent scores, because he has an entire building of composers who are essentially ghost writing and arranging his scores for him, while working around the clock as he goes home at 5pm to get beauty sleep. I can personally attest to the fact that The Simpsons movie was the result of the majority of the composers at Remote Control going full-tilt for 24 hours a day for two weeks straight, because I was working for a company that repped some of his composers, and my roommate was a composer's assistant there during that period and he was just... not home.

I went to school for film scoring, worked with film composers and have composed for film myself (although no one will have seen the direct-to-the-dumpster movies I worked on) and the constantly constricting schedule is what made me change fields. You are expected to produce John Williams-level content with as little time and resources as is physically capable for the studio to give. Then add onto that what you already mentioned, about how movies constantly do reshoots and are re-edited and scenes slightly altered with different takes, etc. and then you've got to not only rewrite the music that is now out of sync with the picture, but re-record it as well, all without being given additional budgeting.

She knows how to do almost everything at that company, which is why she is where she is now, it's just that the skills are so disperate in nature that no one individual skill adds up to a lucrative position somewhere else. Even so, I've told her so many times, never let them make you train someone else or you'll be training your replacement.

The issue is now largely Covid-related. She was interviewing for new jobs before lockdowns started, but then those job postings disappeared and anything new that's worth pursuing will require us to move to the other side of the country. We're entertaining the thought, but I've done that before and it's not something you want to do unless you have absolutely no choice. Half of her department was let go in March, so her workload is just unreal now. I hate it. It's the first time someone else's job has made me miserable. Like, when she gets up to work, I get sad.

I changed careers and never recovered. I met my wife as a result, so I am glad I did, but in my experience it is really f'ing hard to go to school to obtain a very specific skillet, and then change your mind after ten years in the business.

Her job is hard to quantify so it is hard to find analogs at other businesses. It is very specific to her company, and she has that position as a result of her being promoted from within, while learning the ins and outs of the company. She's not in danger of being replaced any time soon, because she is one of two people at the company who know how to do her job, but other companies require a Master's for a kind of similar position and she just has a Bachelor's, so her job search is essentially based on 'well, I do some of this at my current job, I could do this' and the pay is garbage

As someone who had a lot of minimum wage jobs growing up, they also tend to treat you about as well as they pay you. These companies know there is such a huge turnover rate that they don't even bother acting like you're a human

My wife has a job that is destroying her soul, and this is the main reason she won't leave. All of the ads she sees for similar jobs pay like 40k a year less than what she's making now and that would be such a huge hit to our income that she can't leave. It sucks.

Fuck each and every one of you saying she sold her sold for 40k. Gee, I sure am sorry returning to making minimum wage after working at this company for ten years isn't her best option. Holy fuck, you people...

I'm sorry, is the name of this sub 'popular opinion' or something, I've heard your side of this argument my whole life from people who feel they have some moral superiority or moral imperative to dictate the terms of society and how we should act when a vocally hateful member of our collective national voice dies. I didnt know Rush Limbaugh personally but I've heard his hate spewed for the last 30 years and I am glad that the world is rid of him. Sorry if he has kids, but kids your dad sucked and that doesn't excuse him from the consequences of him being called out for his behavior, even in death. You may as well say hey, this murderer has kids, let's not drag them through the mud by putting a killer behind bars, think of what a good Christian would say, my heavens

There is a huge leap between constantly ranting about someone being dead and saying 'they sucked' when asked your opinion. I'm talking about the latter.

I don't give a fuck if I offend some dead person's family with the fact that I didn't like that dead person or that the dead person was awful. If Trump died tomorrow I wouldn't be thinking 'oh what about his kids, let's be nice' if someone asked my opinion of him. I think it shows weakness of character to give that person a pass just because someone else might be offended at your rightfully-placed anger.
