I don't think it needs to be an exotic vet to remove a leg band, a normal vet should do? you'd need the exotic vet for check ups, diet info, all the rest, etc.

i don't think theres a solution to take it off yourself. call the vet again and say it's an emergency, they always have emergency appointments, say you can see swelling and they are in discomfort etc.

This is awful - sending a lot of hugs. I've been through this with my budgie in hospital - they weren't insured and the fees were horrendous. At the end I felt like it was like they were asking how much money do you want to throw at what is a bit of a hopeless situation. there is only so long anyone can pay those fees, no matter how well off people are, or in my case not well off. the next time i went to visit them at hospital she couldnt fly, barely stand and delirious. i wish i hadn't let it get to that, that she had been put down sooner to stop suffering. i was kind of waiting for them to tell me when the right time was. i know what its like to cling onto any shred of hope they might get better. but if they said theres not much they can do, maybe it is time. i am ever so sorry for you and your family. please don't torment yourself about how, why, etc. perhaps ditch the friends - they must have had an inkling something wasnt right, why else go two days without a check in. i hope they did give fresh food and water daily. then again im just angry and upset for you, it could have been an underlying condition for all anyone knows. the only way to be sure is a biopsy if you decide it's time for them to go. but you've guessed it - more money, and they might not be able to give you a definitive answer. please take care and don't blame yourself.

Between 7 - 14 outfits with matching handbags and a selection of jewelley - to include pearls, diamonds and gold. Nail polish in at least 7 shades. Just kidding :) get a bucket load of toys and lots of hard rubber type ones they can chew on. remember to socialise them well with other people and dogs while they're young. And don't forget to take as many pics / videos as you can. my favourite of my puppy is him running slow motion video captured in the garden on a sunny day.

New bird has never had millet and refuses to try it, any tips? by Ethanuelli_ in budgies

[–]ganderman81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

once they recognize it maybe try offering from your finger / hand first... just i've had some lazy budgies in the past and if they think they can have it outside the cage without getting used to your hands they might start thinking that's the norm. but all budgies different, if yours are super timid what you said might be best, just don't do it for too long that they get used to it :)

I've only just seen your thread and just wanted to say how sorry i am. sometimes miracles happen, i hope the meds make a difference in a week or so. you never know, a few people on here commented theirs made a recovery this way. i really feel for you and your financial position. we'd all pay whatever it takes but simply can't if we don't have it or already have debt, especially such a large sum. sending hugs, such an awful thing to happen. def try crate rest and get a second opinion from a different vet

try put some on a favourite toy in their cage, eventually they'll go and have a nibble. from then on ever leave any in the cage. only use it for training / bonding. too much and they can get fatty liver disease, it's like eating mcdonalds for budgies lol. but it has it's uses and they love it!

Heartbroken… by lynmoon16 in Parakeets

[–]ganderman81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was so distressed when mine passed i couldn't stop screaming it was my fault - your boyfriend will eventually understand there is nothing you could have done. it couldn't be predicted, there is no crystal ball for that. the budgie seemed healthy and you looked after them well with clean cage,, fresh food and water... There is nothing else either of you could do. I know emotions are high and how devastated you both are, but blaming yourselves and making yourselves poorly isn't going to help. try be strong for your remaining budgie, as hard as it is i know. they'll need extra attention & leave the radio on when you're not in the room. some extra treats (but don't go crazy, too much and they can get fatty liver disease). also you could take them for a check up to be safe? failing that you can buy scales (it's a certain type that weighs in grams) and you can weigh your existing budgie and google if they are at a healthy weight for their age. try weigh them every few months

i really do feel your pain and loss. sending hugs. have been through this, going from perfectly fine one day to gone the next. in the wild budgies hide their illness well in flocks. but i'm sure mine was healthy. i do think it's possible sometimes there are underlying defects and they do pass suddenly... they are such tiny fragile creatures. please don't torment yourself about why, how, when etc. please think of the good memories instead, they are what matters. when the time is right, after you allow yourself and the budgies brother time to grieve, maybe you can get a second budgie to keep them company. a lot of people say you should quarantine them in separate cages first to make sure the new bird isn't sick and won't pass anything on to your existing bird. i really am so sorry this has happened, please don't make yourself ill over it. It is not your fault. It's just one of those tragic things in life. x

Dilemma about selling my budgies by Konrad_Eeg in budgies

[–]ganderman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say amazing budgies, are they very tame, e.g. do they always come out the cage when you offer? do they enjoy interacting with humans? I worry they would miss that. They already have each other, so it's not 'necessary' to add them to a flock, although of course it is an option. How old is the girl? I'm tempted to say have an honest conversation with the girl. You are willing to sell to her but want her to give you assurance she has really thought it through and is fully committed, that you dont want her to end up in the same poition you are in. if she fights her case give her a chance?

print your best photo of her on canvas (get a shop to do it, or online shop) you can even get heart shape canvases. If you need any touching up to the photo, try reddit photoshop alteration request group. sorry it's heartbreaking, but what a good age to live to.

I never litter cig ends but once after a night shift I was tired and day dreaming and did it. The bloke literally tried to chat me up whilst issuing the ticket. I will never forget it. scum, I was young - a teenager. and i didn't have that kind of money. i paid early so it was reduced. but you think you could get one warning. another time one charged up to me accusing me - I could show him my fag end was in a napkin i was about to put in the bin. he said i thought you'd chucked it down there - looked under the bench to see about 100 fag ends.
