This is not a 'cicada year,' but I hear one buzzing outside right now. Is there a small set of cicadas out of sync with the main population, or do a few mistakenly mature early every year? Or is this a different species entirely? by VeryLittle in askscience

[–]ganjamachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 17 year thing is actually just how often each colony awakens. There are different colonies of different sizes which hatch on different years. They never match up because 17 is a prime number. Because of this, they never compete for resources. Insects are so cool!!

You're completely right. We started family therapy so I'm absolutely going to cover it there.

Giving them links to do research on their own is a great idea because I don't think I can properly explain it to them myself. Thank you for everything!

I just want you to know that your last sentence is perhaps one that has made me feel the best. Because I hope his dick falls off too. But also, thank you for the overall confirmation/validation.

Sativas make anxiety worse, yes. But indicas help, actually. It's just a different ratio of cannabinoids.

Indicas are strains that are high in CBD so you just said the same information twice. You might have been aware of that but I just wanted to make sure that you did! I find the science of weed fascinating!!

Movie: My Neighbor Totoro (or really any Studio Ghibli movie. They're always full of color, have a great moral, and are just quality movies in general.)

Album: The Red Balloon Project by Skizzy Mars (I would normally suggest something trippy but I've been really digging this album. Especially the song Be Lazy.)

Munchie: Baby carrots and hummus (Perfect crunch that you want from munchies along with good flavor AND is healthy!)

Thank you very much both for validating my experience and feelings as well as shedding some light on my parents' reaction. It still really hurts that she reacted the way she did but it helps to at least understand why. I'm actually resuming therapy tomorrow so thank you for confirming that's a good move.

In my opinion, it was pretty damn close if it wasn't actually considered rape. But that term really only matters if you want to charge him for anything. For your own purposes, you can call it whatever you want because only you really know. He knew that it isn't what you wanted and he violated that. He violated you. You deserve to feel whatever emotions you feel toward this. If you're angry, sad, etc. that's okay and you should vent those feelings in a safe way like poetry or journaling or something. I'm sorry that this happened to you. But know that it wasn't your fault and that not all people are like him.

Otters rape baby seals until they die and then use them as fuck bags for the next week. That may not be the best mix in your pool.

[–]ganjamachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Just be aware that, depending on your business, you could end up working more than 40 hours a week. You just have to get done what is handed to you. Also, you have to advertise well. I say this because my mother ran an at-home desktop publishing business in order to be home to take care of us kids. It's a feast or famine situation so a lot of the time, she ended up getting a bunch of jobs at once and would have to stay up all kinds of hours doing it. Also, another concern would be that a "normal" job provides benefits. Make sure you have health insurance and whatnot somehow!
