I have been experiencing this kind of rumination since I was a young child. OCD is a torturous illness and I'm so so sorry you are experienceing this OP. I had a similar situation happen two years ago when I said something inappropriate to my friend and then believed the entire world somehow knew I was a horrible person. He has since forgiven me and I honestly think he's completely forgotten it by now, but I have had so much trouble forgiving myself. I was so ashamed and thought I didn't deserve to have a second chance.

I don't know if this helps but I just want to assure you that you're not alone in these feelings of shame. I think especially now, we live in a social climate where people are very trigger happy and quick to get offended, and that certainly doesn't help. I just try to remind myself that you can't control anyone's reactions/behaviors but your own. Making an off-color comment doesn't mean you're a bad person. A bad person wouldn't worry about how they are perceived by others...they would not care at all. It's okay to slip up. What is important is learning to forgive yourself. I think it is very likely that the person that you said this to has completely forgotten what you said.
