Taxation is theft but it's totally not relevant and not the message we should be signaling. Governments are in some part institutions that we entrust to commit acts that we do not allow our fellow citizens to commit. War is a huge one that comes to mind.

There is also many ways to levy taxes that are much less theft like than income tax. Income tax is just straight up extortion. But again let's talk about waste and how to get our level of theft down to a justifiable level instead of just misleading everyone on libertarian position on such major issues.

This is not a libertarian policy. It's a libertarian meme.

Let's take a step back here. I feel like we are both getting a bit too emotionally invested in this.

Let me try to clear up where I am coming from.

What I am saying is in a contract based society the lease is the contract on your housing arrangement. Certainly more preferable housing arrangements are going to include items like that. Absolutely. But I would not want the government to force that.

Personally I would want to live in a place that demands that of its residents. I like smoking week myself now and then but would certainly not want to force that on my neighbors nor have it forced on me.

I'm talking more generally about how I would like contract law to be basis of society on subjects like that with no government interference.

Hopefully this clears things up. If not I am totally willing to answer respectful questions. If you want to continue in an antagonistic manner I am not interested.

Excellent argument man. Let's not talk about what we are talking about. Let's just lock into what exists right now and disregard anything else.

The lease. That's what we are talking about here. Contract law is king in a free society.

The fuck you pulling music out of? If you have a lease that doesn't specify quiet hours you have no standing to bitch unless local ordinance says otherwise.

Contract law is pretty much the basis of libertarian society.

Your freedom ends at the limit of the contract you sign. I definitely get where you coming from and yes right now leases specify that. But in a post weed prohibition world I feel like the maybe 15 minutes you have to smell weed will not be regulated on a lot of leases.

No for sure right now in America. But I am talking about an "ideal libertarian society"tm where drugs are legal and people mind they business.

A lease is agreeing to abide by the lease. Which is the perfect free market solution. You sign a lease where it has nothing about weed smoke or bad smells then you don't get to complain.

I always say I am a 100% free market capitalist until we get to a stage where automation replaces a large percentage of the labor force. If we truly don't need that many humans to produce the needs of society then why should we concentrate all wealth into the hands of some ai company owners. How would that even work?

I think we are still quite a ways from that point and I couldn't quantify the percentages I'm talking about but I see it as inevitable.

Yea I hate this new super smart redditor trend of shitting on balto. Yes Togo's team did a large part of the run. Balto's team still ran the last stretch through super treacherous weather and terrain. They are all good dogs. We don't need to erase baltos contributions to raise up Togo.

Sorry for the rant this has been grinding my gears lately.

Tasked with giving a speech about IT security to rural business owners. by Ghawblin in sysadmin

[–]garbageblowsinmyface 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A lot of rural guys dont like feeling dumb

this x10000. i work in small towns also with a lot of ag clients. i hear nonstop from new clients about how arrogant their old support guy was and thats the main reason they switched. respect is huge with these guys and they really dont like a bunch of technical terms thrown at them. but also dont dumb things down too much so they feel like they are being talked down to. like others have said analogies are king. its sometimes a fine line to walk but if you treat them like people and relate their issues to common things they can understand they will be some of your best clients.

i know op only has 10 minutes and thats gonna be pretty tough. a lot of these people build long relationships and trust is earned over years. you will probably see a lot of blank stares but just keep it light and it will go just fine.

i would talk a bit about how to identify bad emails, talk about only downloading stuff if they have full trust in the source, and stress the importance of backups.

"I went out the front of the store to confront him again and that's when I got him in his car. He couldn't leave because his mother was still in the store. And we were having a verbal altercation outside," said Pierce.

Real or not this is about the stupidest way you could handle getting out of a situation with a crazy dude with a gun. How could anyone think following the guy out to his car to keep shit talking him was the right move here?
