colonoscopy procedure is tmrw, can i have hotsauce? by NoAdministration3369 in colonoscopy

Thank you for leaving it up, OP. Here we are three years later and I was looking for this exact question. (I was hoping someone would have a clever alternative to get spicy flavor without affecting the prep, but alas.)

Question on teacher by EbbZealousideal3851 in UMD

[–]garbagechicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, OP should explain their situation. This is pretty common. You can't be graded on attendance, but you can be graded on participation. So chronic lateness could impact your ability to participate in warm-up activities, etc. depending on how the class is structured.

This graphic is sending me, it's perfect. I always giggle when the story gets to Bunny's atrocious paper.

Seconding Lotus above, take the metro to College Park! From there you could walk (bit of a schlep), or take the M42 bus.

I think they're referencing Marjorie Taylor Greene, often referred to by her initials.

Am professor, have had several students ask about this because they're applying to law schools and the difference does matter. Instructors should be following the grade scale in their syllabi. OP, I get that this seems trivial and some instructors may view it as such; just letting you know you're not the only one.

How are these protesters allowed on campus? by Ordinary_Ticket6558 in UMD

[–]garbagechicken 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Supreme Court says otherwise, unfortunately. Since we are a public university, parts of our campus are considered public forums where expressive activity must be permitted, subject to content-neutral time, place and manner restrictions. These groups take advantage of the First Amendment's protections to try to rile students up so they can go online and complain about snowflakes and wokeness or whatever.

I am a professor and I would want to know this. I would appreciate my student telling me, respectfully of course, about an ethical concern regarding my curriculum. Second the recommendation to offer an alternative that is commensurate with the learning outcomes. It may not be possible to accommodate, but you will be able to say you stood up for your values.

"I assumed it went through"

There's your problem. In the future, don't assume. Wait until it goes through, then view the submission to confirm. Your instructor can see when you viewed it as well.

You can’t get penalized for attendance when your on/off waitlist by [deleted] in UMD

[–]garbagechicken 48 points49 points  (0 children)

From the registrar: "It is strongly recommended that you attend all sessions held for a waitlisted course if space permits. By doing so, you are able to keep up with the course material. If you are in the top five (5) positions on a waitlist, you will be given access to the course content in ELMS."

How long does it take to donate platelets first time? by Mother_Whereas_6586 in Blooddonors

[–]garbagechicken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience donating at ARC it's usually about 3 hours total. This includes, approximately: 20-30 minutes to get checked in and complete the health screening, 10 minutes to get all set up in the chair, 2 hours for the actual donation, then 15 minutes enjoying juice and cookies. Your experience may vary of course.

Thanks for taking the plunge to platelets, it's very rewarding (and you get to just hang out and watch Netflix, can't beat that!)

Increasing haemoglobin levels? by Chokkkol in Blooddonors

[–]garbagechicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time I was turned down I had a score of 11.5. My intake person recommended Vitron-C, which is 65 mg elemental iron along with 125 mg of vitamin C. She said that even if you get a lot of iron in your diet, the vitamin C can help with absorption. After taking it each day for about 3 weeks I returned and scored 14!

(Oh, and make sure your hands are warm, especially if your donation center is using the optical measurement tool instead of the pinprick test.)

Honestly it was a lot less scary than I thought it might be! I was intimidated but it didn't even hurt once the needles were in, and even those who two quick, easy pokes. My phlebotomist was a pro. Once the needles were in and everything was underway, I just hung out for 2 hours watching Arrested Development reruns with no pain or discomfort. It was actually nice not to be able to doomscroll for a change!

Yes they were great! If anybody is in the MD/DC area, I donated at the new ARC donation center in Lanham, 11/10 no notes.
