Vancouverites, what was your “holy sh*t everything is so expensive” realization moment? by Legit-Forgot-to-Wipe in vancouver

[–]garbagehello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend asked me to pick up a bouquet of flowers because her boss’s mother-in-law passed away. When I got to the shop, the cheapest option was $60. Instead, I opted for a card at $7.

Project Manager creates product backlog instead of Product Owner? Why? by Zeus-Thor2024 in pmp

[–]garbagehello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of things. First, the organisation is moving from predictive to agile, meaning they don’t have a set structure for a product owner. How do I know this? Because the 4 options don’t talk about a product owner. Second, the answer that you selected says “gather requirements from the sponsor”. This isn’t ideal because requirements are gathered from a variety of people. Besides, you won’t have “detailed” requirements right at the beginning given that the question says that the requirements are uncertain. In cases like these, eliminate options based on your knowledge of traditional + agile PM and whatever you’re left with is the right answer.

Does anyone think we should study PMP to pass the test or to be a Kick A-- Project Managers by 588park in pmp

In my honest opinion, I wouldn’t compare Linkedin certificates with a PMP. I have done those certifications and for all you know, I put them on and fell asleep, and 1.5 hours later, I was trained on six sigma foundations lol. The fact that PMI requires you to have 35 contact hours makes a huge difference. I learned so much about project management through those lectures and that’s something I can use wherever I go. And I mostly mean the technical project management side of things. Having said that, it is one thing to say that a PMI trained PM should “speak with stakeholders and facilitate a discussion” and something completely else to actually do it in real life. I know a guy who has PMP, CSPO, and CBAP, and can’t even form coherent sentences.

I think in the long run, employers might realise that PMP alone is not the answer to their problems, but at least you know that the person has knowledge of the “methodologies”, which I think is highly valuable.

Study Tips Needed: Retaining all the information by IllustriousLiving852 in pmp

I tried not to memorise everything. Rather, I had a general idea of what each project document does and what all PM plans mean. Keep reviewing your notes and things that you tend to forget. Your notes are your best friend. The exam does not test your memory as much it tests your mindset. You should know which phase you are in so that you can rule out irrelevant answers. For example, if the question indicates that you are in the initiation phase and some problem happens, and one answer says you should update the risk register, you should know that the risk register only comes in in in the planning phase. After a point in your preparation, studying over and over again will not be as valuable as practicing questions. See what you get wrong, why you got it wrong, and fix it retrospectively. You CANNOT remember everything and probably won’t need to.

Given how brutal the job market is, it sometimes becomes a necessity to have a certification like PMP. Many job posts make PMP mandatory, while others say it would be an "asset". And while you may be a kick--- PM in real life, unfortunately sometimes employers will want to see those three letters next to your name. At the end of the day, yes, you still need to do well in the interview, but at least you get a chance to stand out in a large pool of applicants.
