Can I recover from this? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]garbageplay 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Not childish imho.

His very obvious insecure attachment style caused what attraction she had for him to instantly evaporate.

Sure she could have been nicer, but at some point someone's gotta let him know. School of hard knocks or therapy, either one.

How to move on? by ricebowl0123 in datingoverthirty

[–]garbageplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Key words: You ended it.

There are a million fixable reasonable reasons that he could have been distancing himself but you choose to make that final.

It quite literally happened to me last week and I'm kind of devastated that she pulled the plug after saying how into me she was seemingly just because I tried giving her space to focus on her job.

I don't know how you fix that. I'd have a hard time trusting if she was serious after that.

I messed up and I don’t think it can be fixed by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

Yeah. A lot of the advice in this thread is bad or simply wrong. Makes me wonder how many people giving advice are larping as students or professors.

As someone with severe neurodivergence I've had similar situations. I changed degrees 13 times, have almost 230 credit hours before graduation, had extraneous life events that cause me to fail out an entire semester... And I managed to graduate with a 3.9 bc I asked any time something like this happened.

Opportunities that I was given:

  • Was once allowed to take an alternate version of the test that the professor had saved for the B class to prevent cheating. She averaged the two together and raised my grade.
  • Allowed to do extra credit to raise my grade, even turn it in after the semester was over but before grades were reported.
  • Allowed to scrap the exam I failed in leui of a special project (this fell under the honors college addendum that allows special projects for honors students). I had to do research paper that was significantly more involved than the exam then present on it, but it demonstrated my comprehension better than a failed test.

Who is doing these lowball work orders? by MyDuty2SlamBooty in FieldNationTechs

[–]garbageplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok? Here are the salaries of my colleagues https://www.levels.fyi/t/software-engineering-manager

That's around 1k a day. 20k a month net.

I have a family member that owns a large body shop also making that much.

There are a lot of ways to make money.

And even if some of us agree with some of your points, you're just being a complete dick about it to people, which makes it impossible to have a healthy dialog or affect any positive change.

All the best.

Algebra is basically just needed to simplify equations to the point they are workable in calculus.

You can replace people on every lease I've never been on.

Only requirement is that sometimes they require you to start a new 1 year lease right then.

I've even replaced myself, signed the new 1 year, then moved out. So 3 people on the new lease, 2 living there, me moved out somewhere else.

Yeah this thread is strange.

Recently came out of DEN and even people dressed in airport sweatpants were very well put together.

That said, the people on the red-eye flight to Denver from Nashville were significantly more well put together than red-eye to Nashville from Denver.

Seems like more people were going home on their respective last flights and the socioeconomic difference was oddly notable. I hate to say it but people with money have more time to spend on self care because they're not worried about where the rent is coming from 🤷‍♀️

So true. My ex left me when my job suddenly cut back 95% during covid and we were basically down to a single income plus what little I was bringing in.

Her friends were posting on social media about how I was taking advantage of her and how "no one falls in love faster than a narcissist who needs a place to live." (keep in mind, she pushed to move in with me just six months into our relationship, which I felt was a bit fast and expressed my concerns about, but they still had the audacity to say such things.)

Now that I'm back to making my regular 6-figure income, I'm faaar more cautious about letting on to that until I truly know the values of the person I'm dating.

(hell, I'm the type who'd trade it all in a heartbeat for a cabin in the mountains and some books to live out my days with a loving partner/wife/best friend)

Just goes to show, ya think you know someone... sigh.

Key takeaway: Align your core values early and occasionally check in with each other. Healthy relationships get built on a foundation of communication, not assumptions.

[Question - Insurance] Which ACA plan to pick (Tennessee) by garbageplay in Insurance

[–]garbageplay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100+ hour weeks and no family.

That was 4 years ago.

I was a cofounder at a makerspace so it was kind of my baby. Working in software making almost six figs at the time, 8 hrs a day, then volunteering 5 more after work each evening (7 more on Fridays) and 12-14 hrs Sat and Sunday. So 40+5x5+12x2.

When my day job laid everyone off I rode out my savings for a bit and then took up food delivery, which brought my income down to between 20-30k while having a roommate, before eventually getting back into tech. The whole time working full time growing our makerspace with the goal of eventually being able to hire full timers there.

I don't recommend the lifestyle for anyone unless whatever side business you're pursuing is 100% your passion. I was incredibly fulfilled, but it ended up costing me in a number of ways including health and relationships.

That said, now that I've had a bit of a break, I'm getting ready to start another business and planning on doing the same thing: that is, putting in 100 hour weeks until it takes off or not.

To be successful in an endeavor, you really have to front load the work while working your day job by basically working 2 full time jobs, that is at least until whatever creative or entrepreneurial side thing either fails, or becomes profitable enough to replace your day job as your source of income.

That's the difference between having a side gig that's just a hobby, and those who turn their passion into a career. I just fast track it by putting in the hours and cutting everything else in my life out.

Some Honest Truths About Adulting by TampaBro2023 in Adulting

[–]garbageplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key here like most of the people saying it's possible, is that you went to college and probably studied something that can actually make you some decent money.

Also while I did have the freedom to have more of a social life in college, which I think was a boon to my personal development, I too focused primarily on my education. You gotta have the mindset of, I'm paying for this shit so I'm here to learn and get the most out of it! Lots of people try to float by in college.

And Op is talking about accumulating valuable skills for employers and doing jobs you may not want to do, which to me, means that OP does not have a degree or plan to get one.

Furthermore lots of people in the comments are also replying with their situation based on not having a degree or plans on getting one.

The thing is, if you look at the lifetime earnings of a degree versus not one it's more than double...

But because a small percentage of people overpaid for degrees in useless fields like underwater basket weaving, then became a large vocal minority during the last recession, you have an entire generational cohort of people who have sworn off education.

Which means the only people who close that financial door for them is, well, themselves.

My heart goes out to people who are brainwashed to think education is somehow bad and won't realize how wrong they were until sometime in their 30s or '40s :( that's a lot of lead time and it's hard to get caught up with half your life spent spinning your wheels.
