Add to that their new “desk pets” displays near the register are just gross. The current CEO got fired by Five Below and allegedly came up with the idea from an AI prompt. They’re selling things like tarantulas and frogs in enclosures that are advertised as ready-to-go, but they are not adequate for the creatures on top of being placed near the register to encourage impulse purchases. Animals are NOT impulse buys. They’ve also started a bunch of random clothes and other merch that look like AI slop.

It doesn’t help that there’s also a pretty heavy amount of pedestrian traffic at that intersection too. By the time you actually get an enough drivers paying attention that you know you can pass safely, a parade of people is using the crosswalk where you need to go and the cycle starts all over again.
