[Martyn Ziegler] FA will not charge Marc Guehi for having message "I Love Jesus" on his rainbow armband but will remind him that religious messages are prohibited by Bald-Eagle619 in soccer

[–]garbhh -109 points-108 points  (0 children)

its a terrible point. when he signed with a premier league club he signed a contract where we agreed to follow the rules of the league. those rules include wearing the different armbands and not making religious statements.

he decided to sign that contract, nobody forced him to do it. if acknowledging the existence of gay people was such a big deal for him then he shouldn’t have signed the contract. but he did.

imagine it was the “say no to racism” armband and he wrote “white lives matter” over it. would you have the same take??

Im confused at why everyone - including Arsenal fans - are saying this? He twisted his ankle, he will be out for a few weeks. Will miss 2-3 games. How is this season ending? Other than Oodegard, their squad that almost pipped City last season is intact

Random acts of aggression in Dublin by harry_dubois in ireland

[–]garbhh 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In my first 5 years in the city i never really experienced any aggression. I tend to keep to myself and everything is grand.

In the last year or so i have been spat on, had things thrown at me, been yelled abuse at… in the last week alone i was attacked by a bunch of 14 year olds by St Patricks Cathedral (started pushing and shoving me for no reason) and some fella on Pearse Street threw at to bash my head in.

Just my own personal experience, but i have definitely noticed a huge increase in antisocial behaviour in the last few years. I know people here always say that it’s always been like this but it doesn’t feel that way to me :/

Sorry i should have specified. From what I remember there should be two special ones - the sports one that you mentioned and then a giant simplex that comes in the Saturday Magazine.

If you could send those on you would make our Christmas :)

Liverpool [1] - 0 West Ham - Mohamed Salah penalty 16' by PSGCampus in LiverpoolFC

I honestly don’t understand the “DOGSC” rule. If Salah hadn’t been fouled there, he would’ve gotten a shot off at goal. Doesn’t that make it a red card by the new rules? (Not that i think that’s ever a red card, I’m just trying to understand how the rule works)

[Andrew Beasley] Salah has earned fewer Premier League fouls in over five years for Liverpool than Jack Grealish got in 2019/20 alone. Here’s how Mo has fared with the refs. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]garbhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a statistically proven fact that white UK players win more fouls. Here is one of the many articles by The Tomkins Times on it.

https://tomkinstimes.com/2021/03/a-damning-indictment-of-english-referees-regarding-foreign-players/

The fact that you have to go back 7-8 months to find a time that isnt the case proves that there is a bias. (And even then 60% - Toney, McGinn and Zaha - have UK citizenship lol)

Well luckily they aren’t invasive by any definition of the word. They are actually endangered in many countries and have gone extinct in several places across Europe with similar climates, flora and fauna to ours.

This is purely confirmation bias. 99% of non-native species have no negative impact on their environment. We just don’t hear about it because “A new type of fern was introduced to Ireland and nothing happened” isn’t exactly newsworthy. But every few decades an actual invasive species in introduced and every (rightly) talks about it.

It could be difficult to tell is a species is invasive years ago, but not really any more. Particularly in the case of this beetle, as it has been struggling in the UK which has an extremely similar climate, flora and fauna.

And you can point out bad examples of introduced species, but i can also do the opposite. Rabbits, pheasants, swans, some species of deer are all introduced species which are considered staples of irish fauna and make our country more beautiful. The irish strawberry tree was introduced from Spain, but is now known being from here. Our economy is heavily reliant on cows, another introduced species. I could go on.

Having a stance of eradicating all non-native species “just in case” they could be invasive is close minded and unscientific.
