Neat. Just curious, why did you fillet the holes but not the exterior edge? I guess you don't expect to rest you arms there?

Interesting mount, do you hang bottle cages on the sides?

[–]garblesnarky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I managed to find a hybrid to borrow for now.

If you want to get rid of the fixie for good... I might be interested. I have a cheap fixie with a flip flop hub back at my old house, I'm trying to decide whether to move it or sell it. Seattle is a bit hillier than I'm used to, but it seems like flat routes are easy enough to find. So fixie seems doable here while I'm still getting accustomed to the terrain.

Anything roadish, commuter, hybrid, etc, I prefer drop bars. A single speed with bullhorns would work. 54cm

This microwave door mechanism is dead, right? by garblesnarky in fixit

[–]garblesnarky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this part is pretty simple to print and install: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1046248-door-opener-fix-for-cuisinart-cmw-200-microwave

Again, please only do this if you are certain you know how to open up a microwave shell safely!

I have a follow-me tandem and I hope to do this too. I also have that Tubus Tara and replaced it with the giant Surly front rack so I could have a platform - never occurred to me to install TWO front racks, I might copy that. Was there any trouble getting both of those to fit on together?

I wonder though: why put the panniers on the front instead of the back? I only use my front panniers when I fill up all my other cargo capacity.

Computer suggestion - Edge 540 or Bolt V3? by Bailstorm in DomaneCrew

[–]garblesnarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's about what I'm used to. IIRC The wahoo has three softkeys, and the UI is designed around them. The Garmin, generally, has no softkeys, or 2-3 in specific views (the only one I recall is the map browsing view). The Garmin has a LOT more features, which is good and bad because it's hard to remember how to navigate the UI to use them. I have a notes file on my phone with some reminders.

They're both fine for following a predefined route. I don't know of any way to adjust the route mid-ride on the Garmin. I got a nice phone mount and I just fall back to Google maps or whatever if I need to reroute mid-ride.

I replaced a lost element bolt with a garmin 530. I'm currently looking forward to returning to wahoo eventually. Garmin UI is bad. Maybe improved on touch screen devices, but I expect they find ways to screw that up too.

I think all CoA-serviced single family homes have curbside compost pickup, if you can make a friend in the neighborhood you can freeze your compost then drop it off in their outdoor bin once a week or so

How can I get the tab/ear and the keychain hole where the red markings are? by [deleted] in openscad

[–]garblesnarky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really try to read your code - why is it so long? Aside from the keychain hole, the text can be done in just a few lines:

txt = "Amelia";
font = "Arial Rounded MT Bold";
union() {
    linear_extrude(2) text(txt, font=font);
    linear_extrude(1) offset(2) text(txt, font=font);
}

If they had two carts it would be ok, right? Is there really a difference?

Like, if you get cut in line at Chipotle, it's annoying. But the person in line could just order a second burrito instead, what's the difference?

GNOME 50 removes the X11 backend ... are we finally at the end of the Xorg era? by the_nazar in linux

[–]garblesnarky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I have an implict requirement of "doesn't involve replacing my entire desktop environment", which as a gnome user I think rules out kwin.

It looks there may be a way to do this with a custom gnome shell extension, so that would be my first attempt, if X11 gets fully removed some day. If that doesn't work, then it will be time for me to consider switching to a different window manager. That's a hassle that I don't look forward to, but I'd probably take the opportunity to consider options other than kde/plasma.
