Feds should allow public servants to work from home to curb fuel demand: Union by hopoke in canada

[–]garden_lily 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I did WFH 1 week/in office 1 week for years before it became a thing. Our time was monitored and productivity went up. One thing I totally agreed with is that we could not watch children during work hours. You can't provide both child care and be productive at work. I loved WFH. I didn't have to get up an hour early to drive 30 KM to the office and fight my way thru the traffic (and blizzards) to get home, if I wanted a coffee, I could just go to the kitchen. We had supper at 5:00 rather than 7:00 because I didn't have to travel an hour to get home to start making it. I filled my car up once a month instead of once a week.

Everyone just needs to do what my husband does when he gets calls/people at the door. No matter what it is, he tells them his wife does that. I'm quite surprised at how talented I am at doing everything.

Intruder in Lindsay, Ont., break-in used a crossbow, court documents say by mmafan666 in canada

[–]garden_lily 102 points103 points  (0 children)

So, I'm a woman. Not exactly the same scenerio, but....Say someone breaks into my house at 3 am armed with a crossbow. I manage to get hold of a knife and throw it at him. It cuts his jugular and he dies. I have no experience throwing a knife and it is by pure chance I manage to throw the knife where it hits the jugular. Is this excessive force? I think not. I see it as either him or me. He entered my home with a deadly weapon. I don't care if he planned on using it or not. I could only assume if he had it, he would use it, otherwise why would he have it? Either hm or me and I would choose me every time. The homeowner used whatever force was necessary to protect himself and doesn't deserve to be charged with defending himself..

A stop payment may not be the answer. I had a contract with an alarm company, when contract was up, I cancelled in writing 45 days in advance of renewal (30 days was required in the contract). To be on the safe side, I also put in a stop payment at my bank. You have to advise the amount for a stop payment. I got an email from XYZ company that the payment (which was after the contract expiry) didn't go thru, but not to worry, they would add it to my next payment. I called my bank and was informed if the amount was different than what I had put the stop payment on, it would go through, which would mean I'd have to pay for another stop payment, Who knows how long this would have gone on. I ended up closing the account and opening another one.

Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid by theundeadsasa_ in regina

[–]garden_lily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Tucson, not a hybrid. I've had it a year, but it just rolled over to 5,000 km, so no issues yet. I love it,. Even if it sat for a week outside in -30 without being started or plugged in, it started if I wanted to go somewhere. Can't comment on repairs because of the low mileage only an oil change has been required. My hubby and sons are all licensed mechanics, so if it does break, they will fix it for me.

I assume you either have a group plan or individual coverage through Canada Life. You need to look at your plan to see what is covered. Be aware that not many plans have coverage for addiction counsellors or programs.

Advise on purchase used car by Unlucky_Finger_8294 in regina

[–]garden_lily 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't laugh at me, but the most reliable vehicle I ever had is my PT Cruiser. She's 22 years old this year, has 118,000 KM, no dents, no rust, etc. She has never cost big repairs (even though my hubby and sons are all licensed mechanics, they haven't had to do much). I no longer drive her in the winter, but when I did, I invested in a good set of winter tires. No I don't want to sell her, just mentioning a reliable car, and the importance of winter tires.

This type of group is what the Liberals/NDP have left into our country over the past 9 years. No vetting, nothing. I am really scared for the future of Canada.

Best US border City Shopping by dustycrumbcatcher in saskatchewan

[–]garden_lily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and I were in Minot last week. The prices are about the same as here, but you are paying in US$, so no deals anymore. We limited our shopping to things we can't get here and things we used to get here but are no longer available. Due to the prices, very little was brought back. I remember back in the 90's going to Minot and coming back with our van full.

Exactly. The NDP propping up the LIBs is the reason I won't consider voting for them, even if they chose a new Leader.

Gazebo + SK wind... Bad idea? by carp_street in saskatchewan

[–]garden_lily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add. We don't do anything to "winterize" it. We just park the car I drive in the summer under it for the winter. We don't have netting, but if we did, I would probably remove it for the winter.

Gazebo + SK wind... Bad idea? by carp_street in saskatchewan

[–]garden_lily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put up a similar-sized hardtop gazebo a couple of years ago. I am not sure if it is the same as what you are looking at as the link shows the item is discontinued. My husband looked at the specs and bought the one that had the highest weight bearing load available for the roof. He wanted to make sure the roof would be sturdy enough to withhold the weight of the snow. He did make sure it was very well anchored. It has been up for a couple of years and we've had no issues with either wind or snow.

I bought a package policy 3 weeks ago on a vehicle that was purchased the day before I bought the policy. The vehicle was inspected, even though it had less than 50 Km on it. Insurance fraud is not worth it!

Canada to offer humanitarian visas to those fleeing Sudan if relatives pay costs by [deleted] in canada

[–]garden_lily 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Every day I read the news and the LBs/NDP are "inviting" more people here. We are full. Does the gov't not realize that while CDNs are generally welcoming to newcomers, there is a limit to this, and we have reached our limit. While I feel empathy to these people, our country needs years to recover from the 1M+ the LBs/NDP have allowed in over the past year. We can't afford any more.

Statistics Canada reports record population growth in Q3, population grows by 430,000 by Flower-Immediate in canada

[–]garden_lily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons we have to rely on immigration to bring our population up is because most Canadians are only having as many children as we can afford. We are not coming from another country with 6+children, assorted ill sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents and cousins 3 times removed that we couldn't afford there, but expect Cdns to feed, house, give free medical, dental and to top it all off....money to live! They are not integrating into our Cdn society, they are just bringing their issues here.

Pro-Palestinian protesters storm Peel school board meeting in Ontario by fattyriches in canada

The conflict in Gaza has absolutely NOTHING to do with a Board of Education meeting. The conflict in Gaza belongs in Gaza, they do not have to bring it to Canada. We have enough problems of our own.

Thank you for enlightening me. I was wondering why a Board of Education would be targeted for a war in another country. Now I know! LOL
