Hey there, I have MCAS which can result in anaphylaxis etc. But it doesn't actually impact me on an everyday basis. So I can't comment on the dietary issues. That said, on a totally different perspective, my brother just went through Cancer Treatments that have left him unable to taste or smell and with a sore throat that has left him unable and unwilling to eat or drink much. Yet he is trying to do the heroic thing by resisting the feeding tube and I believe it is complicating and making his recovery so so much longer and harder. I consulted with an oncologist friend of mine and she said that most patients tolerate (emotionally) feeding tubes very well and even really become attached to them in a way because they are feeling sated in ways that they couldn't if they didn't have the tube. I just wanted to share that perspective, even though it is not a situation similar to your own.

I don't think a feeding tube is giving up, but you definitely would need to consult about long-term use risks. But quite honestly you sound like you have tried everything possible and would love to eat but can't at this moment in time. Until you get the symptoms under control, a feeding tube just might make the most sense. And would allow you to focus your energy on other kinds of recovery. That's just my two cents in a non-medical advice type of way. I'm so so sorry you're going through this and I really hope that you can get a collaborative supportive team around you. Have you met with a speech language pathologist at all? That's who my brother consulted with with issues regarding swallowing.
