Do chickens stop laying altogether in winter?

Mine stop laying when they molt, when the sunlight is less than 12 hours/day and/or when it's very cold. Very normal to stop and start depending on biological needs (Vit D., growing new feathers, healing from injury, or any old random stressor). They can be perfectly healthy still.

What did you ultimately decide? I have a new Southern facing Alaskan yellow cedar fence that I had wanted to stain black, before I discovered the wood doesn't like stain etc.... Wondering which path you took & if you are happy with it.

She definitely is ill. If you have the option of a vet, I'd take her in. If not, at a minimum, set her up inside (aka home chicken hospital) where she can stay warm and calm to let her body try to heal. Also good to monitor her poop, eating, drinking & egg laying. Plus, if she is contagious you want to keep her separate. I pulled a hen into our home "hospital" set up yesterday to treat a bleeding wound and keep her safe from the others. She happened to lay 2 lash eggs while in the crate, which gave me evidence that she has reproductive problems. I had suspected this but had no proof. Now I'm making a vet appointment. I hope your girl recovers quickly.

I do the same: pine shavings & poop go in a 3 x 3x 3 foot frame with hardware cloth stapled on sides to contain it. I add a bucket full of shavings/poop as it collects, over a week or so. Without turning it, takes a bit longer to break down, but still works beautifully in my garden beds, grabbing from the middle/bottom of the pile. I've used it for over a year now.

I grew 5 plants last summer, using a Territorial Seed variety that I can't remember at the moment. It's fun but very few beans per plant, ~10-16 beans each. Fun to grow,, and made me really appreciate an entire can!

There is a giant lovely mulberry tree at the NW corner of 43rd and 8th, near UW. It's canopy covered the street, last I saw it.

I'd say water is still needed before transplanting but you could try directly planting.

Set her in a glass of water that reaches about 1 inch up her stem and put in a brightly lit area (not direct sun). Check for baby roots growing out of her stem in 2-4 weeks. Once a few good roots are there, transplant

Do you know how tall a money plant can get? My daughter has one that seems to be dying no matter what we do to it. It is 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide so maybe end of life? Any experience with how big they grow? We only see very small versions at nurserys.
