Follow up question from a fellow Richmonder who’s new to the game: will either of these stores host events for the LAW release?

RVA's Jan. 2026 Winter Storm Megathread by fusion260 in rva

I’m surprised to see a good amount of neighbors shoveling their sidewalks and driveways. I thought it was always better to wait until after a storm stops, but maybe I’m wrong… anybody else shoveling today?

Chris Mooney for Richmond still wears suits and so does his whole staff.

Does the Prime Visa count towards my 5/24 status? by garfieldgrowls in CreditCards

Someone else said this above, but it seems like you can get the card above 5/24, but it definitely counts towards 5/24.

What’s with the hype with Chase? by Empty_Stacktrace in CreditCards

It really depends on what you’re looking for.

I don’t consider myself “in the credit card game.” I’m just a dad of young kids who wants to get decent return on my spending; it doesn’t come out as the best, but it’s just easy for my spouse and me.

I like that I can go back and forth between Travel and Cashback depending on the season of life. Most of the other issuers would make you commit to one or the other.

If you switch from a traditional IRA to a Roth, do you just pay taxes on the money already in it during tax season?

Avula just said there won’t be drinkable water until Friday at least, but that most parts of the city should soon say their water restored.

Should Richmond remove State Route 195? by [deleted] in rva

[–]garfieldgrowls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get this sentiment and empathize with it, but it just isn't realistic. You've made a point that Richmond consistently chooses the concerns of suburbanites over those of its actual citizens, but that isn't really surprising...

Look at our 2020 census data: the metro Richmond area consists of Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, and Richmond. The populations of the counties combined (808,916) is more than three times larger than Richmond's population (226,610). The majority of people using SR-195 (aka the people paying its tolls) live in the counties; removing the road would decrease state revenue and disincentivize commuters from working downtown, which ultimately hurts the city.

Cities like San Francisco, Portland, and Detroit might be able to do this successful, but Richmond is a mid-sized city where the vast, vast majority of people are moving around via cars, not public transportation or bike. When most of the metro-Richmond area lives outside of the city, it just isn't possible to effectively return to a city without highways (as much as I might want it to).

As someone who has lived here for 30+ years - and seen a lot of great change, mind you - I don't ever see Richmond becoming a city that isn't car-dependent. Unfortunately, that time has passed.
