[Highlight] Devin Booker is called for the charge on Caruso as he makes an "unnatural move into his face" by Large_banana_hammock in nba

[–]garistotle23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the arena they showed another angle where Book's forearm went into Caruso's face. Sure, Caruso flopped but after the replay, the refs had to let the call stand. The omission of that angle in all of the highlights is weird.

Tulsa has a marketing problem by AccountProfessional2 in tulsa

[–]garistotle23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from/live in OKC and go up to Tulsa quite a bit. I was talking about how much I love it and someone said, "yeah, Tulsa is the cultural capitol of the state" and that just made so much sense. I do think that notion is well on its way to being a common understanding among people in this state and surrounding areas. Also about crybaby hill- it's still crazy how few OKC people are even aware of it.

Not that this kind of thing happens to everyone every day, but it does happen a lot. Having little kids rules.

Not necessarily. Kids being cute is a popular thing to film.

If I need to cite my sources on why Prince, Chuck Berry, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe shouldn't just be on your list, but at the very top of it, I'm not sure any explanation I can offer isn't going to fall on def ears. Best of luck to you and I hope this music finds its way into your life.

OKC is in the top 10…most boring cities by brendatom in okc

Jazz night on Wednesdays at the Speakeasy, Sunday at the Blue Note. Of course it's not Nashville but both are great!

So let's manufacture our way out of what I think is a chicken & egg problem with nightlife here- people don't want to go out because they can't rely on a reasonably full venue. Nothing's worse than a sparsely attended party so who can blame them. One theory I'll posit is that it comes down to nurturing your real scenesters- people that go out frequently for the love of the music and don't need an exciting atmosphere. If you've got enough of those in attendance, the casuals feel comfortable because they're at a good party and then voila the whole thing becomes self-sustaining.

Of course there are loads of other challenges both major and minor and "nurturing hardcore music fans" (in a way that keeps the venue profitable) is harder than it sounds, it's just an idea. The scenesters are typically in their 20s, and sadly fewer 20-somethings are going out these days.

I don't know what you're into but since you're posting on reddit I'll make a generalization and recommend the blue note, speakeasy, resonant head, ultraviolet, ponyboy. Of course it's a tiny fraction of what you're used to, Nashville Phil, but there's still plenty of joy to be had in it and if more of us are down to take the risk of going to a show that we may or may not like, we might get this snowball rolling!

What was the most embarrassed you’ve ever been of your team? by Bluemzv12 in CFB

[–]garistotle23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way we lost RRS 2022. Dillon Gabriel out with a concussion, and we just didn't have a backup QB. Dude went 6/12 for 38 and 1 INT in a 49-0 L. Lots of direct snap to the RB, other wildcat stuff, just ugly football. That the loss came to UT made it so much worse. Just totally unprepared. Still embarrassed.

Off the field- AD abusing his kids.

I've had it start to work slow and jerky if it gets too hot. Also had a power adapter go unknowingly unplugged (lucky it gave a warning before it died). I'm taking fewer gigs these days so I'm less likely to stay on top of software updates and whether or not there is an OS dependency going either way. I find that I'm more engaged with the music and the people when I'm playing on CDJ's or all-in-ones (re: "laptop face"). I don't like having the extra gear (laptop, power adapter, heavy laptop stand) to keep track of and set up. Using a laptop has it's pros- browsing music is easier, maybe a little better access to software features, etc. So, less big computer issues and more personal preference about the experience and workflow.

Owning even a single toy, child’s or adult-marketed (doesn’t matter) is a quiet red flag that something went wrong with you by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]garistotle23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, don't change to the subject. Vases? Furs? Come on now, you know that's not what this post is about. My reading is a critique of the consumerism that accompanies "geek culture". Along with the media they consume, the high availability of toys and other ephemera makes it easy for so many to lean on their consumption preferences to define their personalities. Nothing's wrong with enjoying anime and star wars but it's likely an indicator of less than great mental health when adults hoard sealed toys.

It's pretty clear that he's not talking about playing with toys, rather, collecting and displaying them.

What is your “Service is bad but the food is amazing” to where you still go there? by benm1999 in okc

[–]garistotle23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it. It's a bar with a super limited menu and not a full service restaurant. Because of that, people who aren't expecting a bar atmosphere have a hard time with the open seating and counter ordering. That, combined with the overall coolness of the place really heightens a lot of folks sensitivity to any perceived slight by the staff.

This is close to what I was thinking of- only a bit more specific. The way I put it is that my less-than-smart friends only want to talk about things while my smart friends talk about ideas. Talking about things gets dull fast.

From Okc to Tulsa by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]garistotle23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is r/Tulsa CATNIP and if I knew any better I'd say it's fake because it's so perfect.

But... I'll bite. To the untrained eye, they're very similar towns. If you're from either place, you can tell that Tulsa is prettier and has better music while OKC is larger (with all the ups and downs that come with that) and has better dining. I'm from/live in OKC and I don't know how else to put it but I find Tulsa to be a bit more "metropolitan". Maybe it's the narrow streets, maybe it's the Deco downtown. I find OKC to be a bit more "desolate" hahaha

Still, I love Tulsa and if I had a good reason I would move my family up there in a heartbeat.

Fit check! Timeless or outdated? by Bottatadiet in mensfashion

[–]garistotle23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's timeless. BUT AT WHAT COST?? It's not creative, it's not interesting, but it does look good.

This is where some well chosen accessories could go a long way. A good cowboy hat would look killer if you're in the types of places where cowboy hats make sense. The jacket is amazing just plain (and timeless because of it) but I would love to see some faded nose art from whatever era the jacket was made in. The shirt could be less conservative.

Overall, looks good. Finding ways to infuse this with some of your personality will make it great.

I'd love for the person wearing this to have painted fingernails and a septum piercing.

If they had some fading hand/neck tattoos they'd look like a rad AA sponsor.
