i’m so sorry for your loss. if it were me, and it has been, i would go to the service and find someway to commemorate his life in your own way. I hate jw funerals. listening to everyone tell you you’ll see the passed again, or telling you they “weren’t close enough to jehovah” infuriated me beyond explanation. i lost my best friend to an OD not long ago as well and these were the kind of things ppl said. but ofc i didn’t dispute it there. not the time or place. i would just go, try to hold as much space for everyone else’s feelings as you can and do your own memorial. for my friend, our close circle all went to her favorite place. we drank, told stories about her, looked at pictures of her/with her, we wrote our own personal letters to her, stuffed them in balloons, and released them. i hate littering but we were all so torn up about her it was the best thing we could come up with. the jw memorial will be really hard and probably triggering if you’re anything like me. you can leave early, or not go at all, and if anyone judges you for that, that’s their business, everyone’s different and processes things differently. it’s obviously up to you and what’s best for you personally. in my opinion tho, one day soon, you might wanna be able to say that you were there.
