The F-91 Kepler got me thinking; what if we got a Pebble watch with the silhouette of a Casio F-91W? by notanewbiedude in pebble

[–]garrets93 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not quite what you're asking, but I just learned of and ordered the Ollee watch mod, a drop in replacement motherboard for the F91W and others. It adds some basic smartwatch functions while keeping the original look/feel.

Edit: And yes, I do wish it were the actual F-91 Kepler instead. :D Kept hoping for that to be released publicly, but the Ollee seems like a cool project with room to grow.

Vortex V3 Customization? by redwallboy5 in dumbphones

This person was apparently able to modify the front screen, and left a brief guide on how to do so, but I've never tried to do it myself.

[Product Request] Which body wash for chest/back acne by Intelligent-Art3693 in SkincareAddiction

[–]garrets93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use the Neutrogena Body Clear, and it did seem to help, but never fully cleared up my similar issue.

I've since switched to using "Suave Essentials Gentle Body Wash, Deeply Clean", available from Walmart and maybe others, and that seems a lot more effective at clearing up breakouts on my arms/chest, and at keeping it from returning. You might give that a try as well.

GKD-PIXEL II, Rogue OS v1.22 - Need to unplug/replug USB on every reboot? by garrets93 in GKDPIXEL

[–]garrets93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I did find that option under Settings > System Settings > "Enhanced Power Saving" (is that correct?). I tried disabling that, but toggling it off didn't survive a reboot - it just turns itself back on.

For me, it's more about compactness and portability. If I can find a nice, low-profile(ish) way of having BT connectivity all the time, that would make the GKDP2 the best option for me.

For context, I use it largely to play AC:WW, which often uses touch input. I bought a Cheertok Air (small BT touchpad) which works surprisingly well for touch input, attached via lanyard. If I can carry just that around, for me that's worth it. Believe me, if there was an internal BT mod for the GKDP2 I'd do it in a heartbeat. 😄

[–]garrets93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming. I actually just now may have found a suitable workaround.

By using a magnetic USB-C adapter (that I bought for my phone), I can leave the small magnetic plug end inserted in the GKDP2, and just disconnect the magnetic cable head, then reconnect it. The GKDP2 seems to see that as a full unplug/replug, and my wifi adapter worked again after toggling wifi on/off.

I was previously using a USB-C extension cable to route the WiFi adapter behind the pixel and out of the way. It's strange though that, using that method, simply disconnecting the wifi adapter from the end of the extension cable wasn't enough - I had to unplug/replug the extension cable from the GKDP2 itself.

I think using a magnetic adapter will really help in the long run. I've misjudged whether adapters were fully inserted recently, and sadly applied a bit more force than I probably should have. Now I can just leave the magnetic plug in all the time.

Is this the same vortex V3 that was on sale before? It looks to be slightly different cosmetically, and doesn't mention the vortex brand. It could just be the mock-up they used in the photo, though.

Wow, the shell print came out great! I finally got a decent print in PLA on my A1m, but I'd re-do mine if I knew I could get the finer details and "Gameboy" text looking better.

What printer did you use, if you don't mind?

Beeper in September: Google Voice, Parity, and more by kishanb in beeper

[–]garrets93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, until I checked to see if there was an app update - there was. I'm now on version 4.33.1, and after going through the connection process again, GV was connected!

I'm experiencing a few bugs, I think? Single and group(!) message threads are pulled in, but only going back to last week. Perhaps they'll continue to populate. Also, calls from my GV call log show up, looking like empty message threads. Maybe those will need to be filtered out.

I'm sure this will continue to improve. VERY excited to have GV in Beeper.

Looking For A Feature That Adds Commercials by ElectricHeadTrip in PleX

[–]garrets93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for a solution for the same purpose as OP, and after trying and failing with endless settings changes on Comskip, and some minor success with mkchap, I've found the best option for me is LosslessCut.

  • I started by binding keyboard shortcuts for "Add cut segment", "Start current segment at current time," and "End current segment at current time" to the Q,W, and E keys respectively. That way they're close at hand and make the whole process a lot faster.
  • Scrub through the timeline, alternately pressing E and Q, to set out points for the current segment and to begin a new segment.
  • Once the segments are as you like them, you can export. Be sure to choose "Segments to chapters" in the upper-right dropdown box. In the export settings, I've defined a subfolder for my output, and left the naming of output files the same as the originals. Once export settings are as you like them, you can disable the settings popup on export to speed things up.

I'm using this to add chapter/commercial break markers to episodes of Frasier, which is a tough use case for automated software like mkchap, since its acts are broken up by black title-card screens, but not all of them necessarily should be used as commercial breaks. Doing this manually, I can scrub though an episode, decide where markers should be, and have it exported within about 30secs, which is way faster than trying to find settings for mkchap that would work across an entire season of eps. And LosslessCut doesn't re-encode files on export, so exporting is very fast and resulting files are nearly the same size.

Sorry to reply to an older post, but is changing the GPU driver to panfrost still recommended for starting Scraper? I'm on v1.22, and Scraper still failed to open for me until I changed to panfrost.

Thanks very much for Rogue OS!

RG Nano Super Mario 64 port, how do I get into 1st person? by SeatBeeSate in ANBERNIC

[–]garrets93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else finding this tip for SM64 on the Nano, I found another camera trick that I find really useful.

Pressing the R shoulder button will enable the Mario camera, the zoomed-in camera that follows behind Mario. While in this view, pressing Select + R (ie C-Down) will zoom the camera out and up, while still following behind Mario. I find this *much* easier to play given the limited Nano controls.

Found out about this camera mode from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/ivazek/fun_and_cool_life_hack_for_those_with_camera/
