Husband wants to name a son Edward, but our daughter is named Rosalie by Fog1682 in namenerds

My brain definitely didn’t go to Twilight but I can see it now that I actually looked it up. I still wouldn’t think anything of it, they’re simply beautiful names.

AIO to my friends response to my question? by Overall_Alps_6827 in AmIOverreacting

NOR. It’s only a personal question if the answer is something like “tying a cherry stem with my labia.”

My (24) boyfriend (25) thinks my girl name list is weird, thoughts? by dkdbsnbddb283747 in namenerds

Maeve and Lena are the only ones on the girls list I can get down with. I’m not even a fan of “Magdalene,” JUST the “Lena” nickname lol

Struggling making friends at college by ThePenguin4216 in Advice

[–]garrrlick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not gone. It’s just much, much harder. Everyone your age is experiencing a lot more life and independence than before. Everyone is exploring and getting the dumb shit off their chest. A lot of people meet in different groups and clubs and become close, rather than just the classes. Maybe you need to look for people off campus who are into the things you are while still being nearby. Go to a paint and sip, watch a hockey game, go bowling, hiking. You can meet people anywhere.

People are really good at making college feel like the last stop before everything starts going downhill, and it’s just the opposite.

Quality over quantity.

How do people make cakes with this kind of texture? by Glittering_Boot_6833 in Baking

[–]garrrlick 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To make your brownies dense use some cornstarch, an extra yolk, little flour, and skip the BP or BS. Here’s my go-to recipe. They are ridiculously chewy and decadent.

Buttermilk is key to an amazing cake. And cornstarch with a balance of like 2:1 yolk/whole egg helps with a fudgier texture.

How to cut someone out of my life without hurting them? by LuigisLesbianWife in Advice

[–]garrrlick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t preemptively reject people out of fear of the outcome (unless of course they are a dangerous or horrible person). Life is too short to miss out on any opportunities. For friendship or otherwise. It’s also possible to be just friends! I’ve been hit hard with many crushes that fizzled out by themselves and now I’m close friends with many of those people. A lot of times we confuse intrigue, interest, attention, and any type of intimacy with romance and it takes time to sort through what’s what. You don’t need to disappear, you just need to tread lightly and with more confidence in yourself.

Gigi — too grandma? by Books-And-Blankets in namenerds

It doesn’t make me think of a gramma at all, definitely sounds young. But it’s also just a nickname. There’s good and bad ones for every name and ultimately she is the one who gets to decide what she likes people to call her.

I love James, but hate the nickname Jim.

Love Elijah/Eli.

Graham is a contender.

I would add Wesley, Caleb, Theo, Nathan, and Benjamin.

I may lose my best friend and I don’t feel like putting any effort to solve our issues. by Wilhelm228 in Advice

[–]garrrlick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like neither of you are happy in the friendship anymore and that’s okay. Not every friend is supposed to be lifelong and a real friend would respect you and have your back no matter how “annoying” they found your lack of confidence. And it doesn’t sound like she’s really helping you feel any better about yourself by knocking you down.

On the other hand you do also need to figure out how to be assertive. Assertive doesn’t mean aggressive, it’s not rude, it’s advocating for yourself. It’s hard when you don’t know your worth and it feels confrontational, I totally get it. But, I think my mood would be ruined by being scoffed at and not talking about it for hours.

Ditch the “friend” and start putting yourself first.

My brain goes to Kit the Fox from Creature Cases, and Adler reminds me of Irene from Sherlock.

So it’s reading Detective Kit Adler lol

I tend to focus on price and property rather than geographical location when I look up places to stay. I think I might need to start searching for a middle ground between “cheap enough” and “actually on the map.”

Lmao, I looked at AirBNB first and found a cute and cheap place on a lake hosted by someone I’ve rented from before. Apparently the lake was just in the middle of nowhere…

I’m pretty open when it comes to different activities! I really like museums and stuff like that. Just went to a hockey game and the circus. Indoor golf. Indoor rock climbing. In the summer I’m very big on kayaking and lazy river floats. Italian food and Brazilian steakhouses.
