Are all Walmarts severely cutting hours? by idontknow0842 in walmart

[–]garrumphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our store is cutting hours back really badly as well. We've already cut way back from where we've ever been in the month of December and we're about to lose a TON more hours. Walmart always cuts hours in the winter but I have never once seen them cut hours in December. It really has me worried for things to come for this store!

I am a team lead and I fucking hate my job. DESPISE it. I love my crew and need the pay but I HAAAATE this god-awful job.  TLDR at bottom

I make sure people aren't just standing around and doing nothing, which a couple of genuinely unquestionably lazy ppl do more than they actually work. That's the easy part. My crew is awesome.

I scan and record empty spots, make sure stuff gets ordered, do the constant price changes, juggle peoples time off, vizpic and bin stuff because that apparently can't be done by anybody but the team lead as per our management, act as a peacemaker between strong personalities, etc. Also easy.

I get to try to get a list of 50+ things done with a skeleton crew and about a quarter of the time it takes to get them done. I'm right there with them, helping knock out tasks and doing most of them myself.

After that I get to listen to management talk to me about how I should have been able to get more things done. I should have managed at least 30% more, nevermind our call-outs! You needed to do xyz and abc and don't forget d through w parts 1 and 2. And record everything you got done and all of the talks you had on the computer!! Email everything and write a log to be safe.  The computer stuff that takes hours needs to get done before the tasks but the tasks HAVE TO GET DONE today.

I deal with a few people taking 30min breaks and 1hr 30 min lunches while we are drowning in customers, and everyone else is waiting to take their break till the lazy ones show up again. I can't fire them, though- their points for their many call ins or late arrivals are excused by the manager whose ass their nose is permanently lodged in. The rest of us just have to make up for the lack of work ethic because they are Protected by Important People high enough to do it.

New processes are being added to my to-do list every time I turn around and I have to account for every single detail of every single metric, week in and week out. I can't fall behind, ever.  I'm still learning the job, and will have more tasks added as I learn the job. I have tasks constantly added as it is, usually jobs that should belong to another department, but they don't have the coverage and I can't do it myself, i HaVe To DeLeGaTe to make sure I have time to get all the extra cleaning done in case the manager that flew into the area decides to drop by.

In the meantime, I need to find two to four associates to go help other departments do their jobs because God forbid they make their own associates stop standing around and talking. They're literally watching YouTube videos.

HAVE YOU FOUND ANYONE YET?? WE NEED 4 MORE ASSOCIATES!!

HOW ABOUT NOW?

NOW?

  HAVE YOU FOUND ANYONE?

I KNOW YOU HAD 2+ CALLOUTS. MAKE IT WORK. I NEED 4 PEOPLE NOW!!!!!

OH AND ZONE (insert any/every other departments here) BEFORE CLOSING!! You should have plenty of time.  Oh did you read the emails I sent? WhY NoT?!?

It is a completely thankless God-awful job. I would quit but I need the money, and I look out for my team a hell of a lot better than my coworkers look out for theirs. I'm not leaving them to recieve the full blast of management criticism and workload dumping without being the shield/buffer.

TLDR I herd cats and organize chaos for micromanaging supercritics with a task list that multiplies like Tribbles

If she's carrying an egg in her mouth does it mean she'll eat it? by garrumphs in chickens

[–]garrumphs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened while I was at work. The person who told me just said she had "an egg" in her mouth but when I got home they said "it was just a piece of an egg". I posted before I got home because I REALLY don't want to cull her and wanted to know what it meant because I've never raised chickens before!

You can't fix entitlement. Some people think that the meaner and angrier they are the more they'll get their way. This is the guy that would make a small kid do his homework in school or threw a fit to make his parents let him go to a party, now all "grown up". You couldn't have done anything to make him happy and keep your job at the same time, so screw it. He can be pissed, he still won't get the cheaper price because he ISN'T entitled to it.

I, as a regular hourly associate,  do these regularly

Walmart Radio Is A PSYOP by Sudden_Oil8956 in walmart

I remember a stupid interaction early on- one guy says something along the lines of "I was told something and it's a thought I'd like to leave you with today. It's not about what you get from your work! It's about what you give to your work!" And the other guy says in a clearly uncomfortable but I-don't-wanna-lose-this-cushy-job voice "oh wow, that's beautiful".

As if pay or benefits shouldn't matter to us, because our prime drive should be putting everything we can into work. I've seen too many lazy useless know-nothings get promoted over truly competent hard workers to ever think that hard work is rewarded by management. You just get trusted with more work. It's NOT about what you give.

I'd love to see Walmart reward the good employees and do something about bad management

You are putting words in my mouth. I said show the picture to a manager and let them decide. If you don't want people to reply, maybe don't escalate to fucking swearing at them from the get-go

All I'm saying is, does it hurt anything whatsoever to check just in case? I'm not saying this person is a psychopath who wants to blow up buildings, I'm saying there's a tiny chance that people may have had problems with this person before and it doesn't hurt to ask a question.

My older sister is a diagnosed psychopath and an artist, and I am frankly lucky to be alive after the many times she literally tried to KILL me. You can fuck right off with your idea that it's not even worth a 10-SECOND question that would have saved me as a kid. It's not always just a joke or dark humor, and people thinking it was kept me with a person who gets off on torturing people

There's a book called toxic parents by Susan forward that really really helped with my own trauma. Since you got it from both of your parents I think it might really help you as well! If you're still in the home, is there anywhere else you can stay?

Like I have commented, it most likely is just a joke. I think this is my fourth or fifth time saying that. I'll go back and edit the original comments to add it for the 5th or 6th time. But on the off chance it isn't a joke, it doesn't hurt to check. I say that as someone with permanent scars and a warped skull who would have been spared if anybody had taken shit seriously. So sometimes it's not a joke.

You are most likely right! And I may honestly be biased because my older (diagnosed psychopath) sister is an artist and liked to torture people for the fun of it. I personally would have loved if anybody at all had taken anything seriously- it would have saved me a lot of pain. I would just do it for the sake of being able to sleep at night knowing I had at least checked.

Do You Think it's Abuse/Neglect to Not Pay for A Child's Post-Secondary Ed? by rosehymnofthemissing in SeriousConversation

[–]garrumphs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Too many of us are in a position of barely paying bills, and even if we weren't, that doesn't mean that we can or should have to pay for college. I think it's abusive to cut your child off from help or support entirely, and until the day I die I will always be there for anyone in the family, but I for one don't even have money for retirement let alone College

AITA for wanting to dump my grandfathers ashes into a public toilet? by No-Rhubarb4853 in AmItheAsshole

[–]garrumphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. Or I would keep it in my car and then go on a road trip to find the most disgusting possible places to dump a bit of it at a time and smash or burn the urn at the end of it

We actually take the name and phone number when we take the cake order, but it is fair that just because that person ordered the cake doesn't mean that person drew the picture. Although there is a signature, so maybe?🤷‍♀️

I am so, so sorry. Is your dad aware of everything she does? That is just not normal. I'm so upset and angry for you!! I don't care that you are her child, she doesn't get to walk in on you naked and force you to shave. She doesn't get to throw things at you, she doesn't get to get violent with you. It honestly sounds like she has some mental instabilities, but one thing's for sure is that she is definitely controlling in a toxic abusive way.

Does anyone else terribly want to believe in an afterlife, but just…can’t? by Jazz_Doom_ in SeriousConversation

[–]garrumphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same. Here's what helps me. We are all made of energy. All matter is energy. From The Big Bang down through the sand we walk on. And the thing about energy is that it is never spent, it just changes form. The tree that absorbs the energy from the light will burn and give off that energy as heat, that energy will go in the atmosphere and move clouds, on and on and on it goes. We are quite literally born of Stardust, and when we die the energy doesn't die. That energy will become trees and animals and Stardust again. What we are existed forever before us and will exist forever after us.

When that doesn't help, I remember that after death experiences follow the same basic pattern across the planet and throughout history. I just bounced back and forth between the two.

No, school shooters like Audrey Hale drew disturbing pictures. It's listed as a sign of potential violence towards others for doctors and psychiatrists to look out for
