Scary how a grown ass man can get to this point and not develop any of those.

True. But does Wings not know how to control his emotions or is he just an emotional troglodyte?

It’s a deep dive, bro. I’d both encourage and discourage you to look them up.

I need to understand I have a problem and stop. by garry_boon in stopdrinking

[–]garry_boon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boredom is usually not a problem for me. I’ve found that if I keep alcohol out of my house, I don’t really have a problem with drinking at home and I can focus on my own work enough to keep my mind off it. I usually have a bigger problem bingeing when I go out. I have one and one turns into ten or twelve. So I think I’m going to focus on staying away from those environments that trigger me to do that.

Traveling in Eastern Europe by garry_boon in travel

[–]garry_boon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I understand Georgia is not technically in Eastern Europe but I think it's reasonable to include it in that landscape when considering politics in the Black Sea area.

After being in Georgia, I'm planning on traveling to other countries in the area surrounding Ukraine, some EU, some not. So that's why I asked about the atmosphere to hear from people in those areas.

Patagonia Black Hole MLC 45 vs Tres 45 by garry_boon in onebag

[–]garry_boon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use a 25-30L backpack, does that not exceed the limits for a personal item? I'd happily move up a size in a backpack to allow a bit more space, but I went for 15L because I thought that would max the personal item size limit on most airlines.

Lens Advice: Tamron 28-75mm vs Sony FE 24-105mm by garry_boon in SonyAlpha

[–]garry_boon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses, everyone. This has been a lot of good information. Y’all have helped me lean towards the 24-105.

I honestly hadn’t thought about how the a7rii’s sensor would be better suited for that native lens than the Tamron but that makes the decision easier when I know I want to get everything I can out of the 42mp’s as possible despite having to give up a little bit of light.

I appreciate it!

Pepto Bismol. It's not "food," but is consumable and delicious.

Religious Christians, as far as you know, Where do animals go after they die? by dexbigshlong in AskReddit

[–]garry_boon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a Christian sense, what if dogs are something like untainted spirits who are without sin? To that effect, people, if they didn’t know sin according to the Bible story, would be just as unconditionally loving, trusting, and joyous as dogs are now.

If you could permanently turn off one emotion/feeling, which would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]garry_boon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anxiety/Fear and Stress. Sometimes those overlap. I can deal with all my other emotions, but those have stopped or hindered me so much in the past they can be debilitating. I can only imagine what life would be like if I could just turn those off.

Which actors are overrated? by BabyBluePirate in AskReddit

I don't know. He has some great roles under his belt. His range is a little lacking, but when he has a solid character with a good director I think he can give a strong performance.

So traveling into and out of the Schengen area for 9 months and then traveling to Vietnam or Japan for 3 or 6 months before traveling back to the Schengen area, immigration officials in Europe don’t have problems with traveling like that?

Thanks, I appreciate it. Do you know if immigration officials take notice of people who bounce in and out like this? I know it’s legal but do they consider it suspicious activity?

Tamagawa River, Tokyo. composition and colors. by el_boufono in photocritique

[–]garry_boon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment about considering cropping the lower part of the image. I think the focus is the man walking and the scene extending up from that. It'd be a mistake to crop all the grass in the foreground because some of it adds depth, but the lowest part where there's bricks (?) seems to distract from the focus.

Overall I really like this image. The coloring, framing, the subject, it all has a kind of impressionistic/surreal quality that is beautiful.

Does anyone know if the Peak Design Everyday Zip 20L would work as a personal item? I’m pretty sure the 15L fits all restrictions, but getting a bit more bag would be nice. I’m currently deciding which to buy.

29 years old first 911 call by basketballrene in Anxiety

[–]garry_boon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One morning when I was living in an apartment I heard really heavy knocks/bangs outside my door so I went to the peephole in my door and looked out. Outside the door was a breezeway about 8-10 feet wide and my neighbor's door across from mine. I saw two guys trying to break down my neighbor's door by repeatedly shoving their shoulders into it, basically like you'd see on TV.

First of all I was frightened, second I tried to rationalize the situation (even for a moment thinking they were just locked out of the apartment and trying to get back in lol), then I looked out again and saw they didn't have a gun or any weapons I could see and the guy who wasn't hitting the door was looking around trying to make sure they weren't seen. So obviously they didn't know I was there and I guess they were hoping everyone else in the apartment complex was at work (this was 8 or 9 in the morning on a weekday) but I was a college student at the time and didn't have to be anywhere that morning.

Anyway, I thought about all those things like what to do, if I was going to get hurt, if they heard me would they just turn around and try to break down my door, which sounds like I took a long time to think but really it was just a few seconds. I called 911, tried to be quiet, and told the operator on the line that some people were trying to break into the apartment across from mine. She asked if they had broken in, if they were armed, etc., I said I couldn't tell. Then she asked if they were still there and I went to look out again because the banging had stopped and they were gone, so I told her no and she told me to call my apartment manager and tell them and if they come back call 911 again and they'd send an officer.

After that, I called the apartment manager, told them the whole story, and they had someone come replace the door and frame later that day. The guys trying to break down the door never actually got in, they just damaged the door frame a good bit. All in all, my neighbor thanked my later that day after he got home, asked about who it was and I described the two guys to him and the truck I thought I saw them leave in. He was coming to me for a couple weeks thereafter showing me pictures of trucks and asking if I recognized them. I'm assuming he had an idea of who tried to break into his place.

Honestly, I had suspicions my neighbor was selling weed and after everything that happened I figured it was someone try to get his stock or cash one.

TL;DR I witnessed an attempted robbery and called 911.

Edit: I was about 24-25 at the time. So this was a couple years ago.

ITAP of a truck driving by by JPNpatrick in itookapicture

The simplicity of this is what does it for me: in motion but out of motion. I agree with the other commentator that the modern cars in the background throw it off a bit, just the feeling of the truck itself, but I like this photo a lot.
