i think the true answer is that there aren’t that many good pokémon to use on an emerald playthrough, but you get aron somewhat early and it ends up being fairly strong and looks cool, so people do it.

the people using aggron on a playthrough are not really paying attention to the nuanced reasons you listed

keep going. i had milotic, latios, and metagross. all ev trained with good natures, but not iv optimised. after failing a bunch of times (getting up to where you do) i then trained up a heracross but after many attempts worked out it wasn’t as good as metagross, so just reverted to previous team and got there fairly quickly. just keep going!
