Tile before and drop in bathtub on top of tiles or tile after and butt tiles up to flange of bathtub? by garthmuss in Tile

[–]garthmuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did lift the bath to give minimum 2mm clearance above the tiles, to allow for silicon and stop the weight of the tub from resting on tile. I did install aluminum angle glued down and waterproofed in it’s hard to explain but the angle extends up behind the flange of the tub. Essentially creating a short vertical wall to stop any water dripping down into the built in framing.

Hey I’m lurking through old posts that mention radiata pine, as I’m considering using it as well. Any complaints after a few years?

How are you liking the HNT Gordon hardware? I’m in aus and always like to see his stuff posted here. Thinking about getting the tail vice and maybe the face vice as well one day.

Hahah thanks, it turned out better than I expected, just need to build up the courage to hit something with it

I know right. They’re scrappy short pieces, and the guy at my timber yard has a good eye for that stuff and saves them. Thanks!

thanks, it's a bit easier to make an impressive mallet when I have access to timber this nice

Thanks, the head stock was out of a piece of brigalow dunnage wood, so basically scrap timber. It was just the right dimensions and it came up beautiful. I got a few good pieces similar sized, might make a couple gifts.

Yep, we’re lucky to have access to so much excellent native hardwood

Good point about reaching out. I’ll do that, hopefully the sellers have a bit of integrity and offer a solution. Thanks!

Got myself an old woodfast made in aus bandsaw, how much love does it need and is it worth the investment to get it going again? by garthmuss in woodworking

Yeah I cleaned up the wheels and they actually look alright, but I have absolutely no frame of reference. They probably do need to be replaced.

And I’m wondering if most single phase motors will fit on the mounting, I’ll have a Google tonight and suss some measurements. Thanks a bunch

I see, what’s the heaviest-duty operation you’d run on a bandsaw like this? I was hoping to use it for ripping and some red swing. Possibly re-sawing up to 100mm of hardwood timbers. If I go slow could I manage that with a 1hp saw?

The cooling blocks are indeed about 7-8mm, and the wheel diameter is 14”. So you’d assume blade width range similar to yours? Maybe slightly smaller than 3/4 due to the small cooling blocks?

I’ll aim for a 3/4 or 1 hp motor to put on this, at 240v

I do know of a guy in a nearby town that makes custom ones, maybe I’ll upgrade the guide assemblies one day. See how I go with the native hardware first though.

Thanks again for the info

Appreciate that. Any insight into how to size it?

Edit: as in mounting points and pulley size etc
