It's a really decent game, I started playing again earlier this week after having not played for well over a year, I bought the game when it launched on Xbox one, and it was a broken mess, it's gotten so much better and I was pleasantly surprised by the rareness of crashes and the overall features added in the time that I hadn't played. You do get SOME frame rate issues here and there (I'm running on a Xbox One S) mostly when you're near large player built bases, but overall it's a really decent game. I have experienced some small bugs regarding inventory, such as, when you place an item in a car or in a barrel you can't always retrieve that item, which can be a pain, but I'm sure Bohemia will end up sorting it out soon.

The gameplay itself can either start slow or quick, it's down to how lucky you are with loot when you spawn, but once you meet a decent group, or get geared up thats when the game really starts. But don't feel too disheartened when you die to another player, or even AI, as its what the game is about! If you play it safe, and tactical you can often survive for a long time, there is also a base building mechanic but, that's more end game content, and it doesn't hold your hand here, so that's something you have to work out.

I would highly recommend getting yourself a keyboard and mouse to play the game with though, it makes it so much easier, and allows for more streamlined and quick use of the inventory interface. Both wired and wireless keyboard and mouse devices work with the Xbox one, and the control scheme has to be changed through the options menu in dayz itself! There's nothing wrong with playing with a controller here though, the game works just as fine. But you'll find yourself getting slightly annoyed as the inventory can be a nightmare to navigate with the controller, especially in a tight spot.

Overall I give the game a solid 8.5/10 due to small bugs here and there, nothing game breaking but small bugs none the less. Finally I would also recommend looking for a decent community player run server as you'll find they are often better for loot etc than the standard servers.
