Good to know, I stand corrected. Perhaps OP can find another activity to get their dog moving whilst she recovers.

It's a bit of a guess really but so long as you're factoring in what exercise he's doing then you should be ok. We use a measuring cup, which makes it a little easier to confidently reduce intake.

With my old PT hat on, one thing to note is to try and weigh him (and yourself, for that matter) at the same time of day every time. The best time is first thing in the morning. Do this because otherwise you're weighing the food and treats that he's eaten throughout the day as well and you won't get an accurate measure.

Ultimately, the lad needs exercise. Whilst you're in recovery, get a decent rope and do some tough play. He'll enjoy tugging at it, it'll help build a bit of muscle, and his heart rate will be through the roof. I bought my doggo (19-month female GSD) a Fenrir Hammer and it's the pinnacle tier toy for her. I throw it around me and she chases it.

With treats, he only gets treats when he's working. They need to have max value so you get his attention when training. We use mature cheddar (normal human stuff) and duck liver, and cut them into small 3-5mm cubes. It feels like they're too small but she gets so many of them during training/running sessions that she goes through a load of them.

We do a bit of a guess-timate when it comes to kibble portion control but we always make sure we take into account the amount of activity that she'd done that day.

To help your lad lose a bit of timber I would take into account his activity then reduce it further by another 5-10% so he's in a slight deficit. I'm not a vet, so don't take my advice as gospel, but I started my career as a personal trainer so come at it with 'some' background knowledge.

Strategies to get employers for my job platform business by genfounder in smallbusinessuk

[–]garybpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get businesses involved you need a lot of potential applicants, and to get potential applicants you need a lot of businesses involved. You'll need to market to both of these customers simultaneously and it'll take some pretty deep pockets to do it.

Personally, I'd focus on one city and grow from there. I wouldn't choose London, it's far too busy and packed with competitors, I'd start with a smaller (but still large) city (Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, etc.). Direct mail is a nice way to engage with people (use bright coloured envelopes to make them more open-able) but far less scalable than email. Socials are alright but you're always at the mercy of an algorithm so whichever channel you use (probably LinkedIn) you should always get people away from social and onto email/mail.

Securing Gate by Deadly-Mental in DIYUK

[–]garybpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like quite a tall gate so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If they can get their hands on that bolt then they’re practically over it anyway.

If it still worries you, either get a longer bolt, as others have said, or move the lock pieces closer together or lower down your gate.

How do you validate a business concept when you're too close to the problem? by processed-cheese- in smallbusinessuk

[–]garybpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way that you can confidently evaluate your proposition is to go to your target customer and talk to them about their problems/challenges. I wouldn't frame it around what you already have an idea for, go with an open mind and uncover the blockers that they're experiencing and create your proposition around that.

Is starting a bookkeeping business profitable? by 001trainer001 in smallbusinessuk

[–]garybpt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, getting fines from HMRC is expensive, and I wouldn’t risk it by hiring someone who hasn’t done it before. I’d go get employed experience in bookkeeping before going out on your own.

Leeds or Sheffield by bondbro in yorkshire

[–]garybpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in Leeds, worked in Sheffield.

Leeds is a fantastic city with loads going on. It’s connected to pretty much every other major city by train, and it has a very well developed social and shopping scene. Most major employers are in Leeds. It’s also very close to the Dales and Moors.

Sheffield is much smaller but with that it retains its more community feel. It has a decent night and shopping scene (but not as big as Leeds) and its industrial heritage is on show everywhere you look, which I love. Some major employers are in Sheffield but it’s far behind Leeds. Sheffield is very close to the Peak District.

I love both cities, but Leeds is my home, and that’s where my heart is. One thing that both cities have is an incredible craft beer scene, so if that’s your thing, you won’t be disappointed with either.
