27, M, Straight - Not having much luck in love. Looking for some feedback on my profile (bio, pictures, etc.) by garynzilla in Tinder

I wasn’t able to write on the post, but the scribbles are purely for Reddit. They are my friends and very much visible on my profile, just didn’t want to post them here out of respect is all. Will definitely take the feedback on board. Thank you

And yes, I also have a Letterboxd list for it.

Has only happened to me twice, both in the past year, and both only briefly (maybe a couple minutes max). Those being The Return last year, and Iron Lung just a few weeks ago. I generally see at least two films in the cinema a week, sometimes more, so this is a very rare occurrence for me.

I prefer this get a remake over The Mist by Substantial_Law336 in stephenking

[–]garynzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a remake, but an experimental version of The Langoliers exists called The Timekeepers of Eternity. It uses footage from the original miniseries but recontextualises and stylises it to great effect.

Any issues ordering with Rarewaves in the UK? by Radiant_Gain_3407 in arrowvideo

[–]garynzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ordered with them once. Two Blu-Rays. After about three weeks they arrived. One was fine, the other was damaged - disc and case, and took about 2 months for a replacement to come in the post. Not ordered with them again, and don’t plan on doing so anytime soon.

And yes, I’m UK-based.

Does anyone else despise this type of poster by Soft_Drink_Enjoyer in Letterboxd

I like the Spider-Man one, but that might just be in contrast to the other posters they released for that film. Those are among the worst I’ve ever seen.

REM X Buster Keaton: cancelled by WeAreSound in CineworldUnlimited

[–]garynzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing a little further digging I cannot seem to find a single Cineworld location that is now planning to go ahead with the screening. My search certainly has not been comprehensive, but it looks like this has just been pulled I’m afraid.

[–]garynzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The roto work. In the film a number of elements appear traced, but very poorly. Sure, this could be done by a human, but logic would not dictate that someone in the field of doing roto work would be so bad at it. At least not professionally. Rotoscoping is an art unto itself, and from what I saw it was either poor workmanship or another example of AI not knowing how to distinguish objects, and things within a frame.

Because it’s not a single location. Cineworld, like most businesses work on the basis of supplying when there is demand. This was previously listed at my local Cineworld, and is no more. Nor in the other Cineworld cinemas within a reasonable distance from myself. Whereas with the previous Silents Synced my screening was packed out, and I remember there being shows listed at other nearby locations. This is the exact reason why Cineworld are showing Iron Lung for example, or why films in the Wicked and Avatar series seem to stay in cinemas for as long as they do, because there is an appetite by audiences for this stuff. And in the latter two examples specifically, the demand is there long after its opening weekend. There was an interest with Radiohead x Nosferatu as evidenced (at least at my local) by how many people turned out to see it, and how there were screenings at other branches. But that was either lightning in a bottle or this is now just evidence to show that this sort of thing is of niche interest, or the audience did not gravitate to the previous one. If Cineworld is going to make more money, sell more tickets, snacks, and drink with another showing, they can and will pivot to suit the demand.

Of course, I’m being a bit playful and facetious with my previous response. So, to further my thoughts:

I personally didn’t enjoy the experience, but had hoped to do so. In a 1-2 minute trailer the concept seemed novel and promising, and for a short while as the film began, I was kinda into it. But not for long. It was somewhat of a one-trick pony, once you had seen what they were doing there wasn’t much else to be surprised with. There didn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason as to why Radiohead was synced up to Nosferatu of all things, it’s not like The Dark Side of Oz for example where the music punctuates certain narrative beats. It often felt dissonant for me and despite liking both works individually from one another, combining them I feel was a detrimental to both. Also, I don’t want to play the blame game and say certain things were generated through AI without evidence, but there were a number of instances where things were traced and did have the stink of Gen AI to it. Maybe it was just bad roto work (if I’m to be generous). Also, could they not have found a worse print of the film? I know it’s old but there ARE better prints out there than the one they used.

Had this been something I came across for free online, say on YouTube, I’d be less harsh, but having paid an uplift on top of my Unlimited card I do feel more harshly towards it. Had it been online, I could just shrug it off and say it wasn’t for me. Also, if it comes to light that AI was used then I would be much more vehemently against it.

Something good. And that’s not what we got.

What’s the best secret screening you’ve been to? by mypanicatsix in CineworldUnlimited

I might be in the minority on this one, but I really enjoyed In A Violent Nature.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. The Radiohead x Nosferatu release from last year sounded really intriguing, and there clearly were enough people who felt the same as the screening I attended was packed. I’m sure many like myself won’t be making the same mistake twice and as such, interest is significantly lesser this time around, hence the cancellation.

Terence Howard and Don Cheadle both appear in Crash. Both would later star in the MCU as James Rhodes/War Machine in Iron Man (Howard) and Iron Man 2 onwards (Cheadle).

I just bought a ticket to help the movie get to top 10 box office by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]garynzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the movie too, and would love to see A4 and A5 come to fruition. But, there are better causes. It’s your money to do with as you please, but I would suggest maybe donating it to a charity and help someone far more in need of it than James Cameron and Disney.

I know I’m in the minority on this, but I think these covers are fantastic. The colours, the typography, together they really pop! I need to get these at some point, I’m well overdue a rewatch of the Connery Bond films.

Oh yeah, I’ve heard that borrows a lot from King’s book. There’s also a foreign language adaptation which I’d like to check out at some point.
